Job Description

Seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join a dynamic and energized group of engineers!

Working as a generation engineer at LCRA is a key function to support the reliable supply of electricity for the people of Central Texas. The Generation engineers work with plant engineers, maintenance, operations, asset management and others. This position requires performing variety of engineering assignments including but not limited to field investigation, solving, report writing, design calculations, and drawing plans and details.

You will be trusted to:

  • Plans and conducts engineering projects involving independent evaluation, selection, and meaningful adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Devises innovative approaches to problems encountered.
  • Schedules, and/or coordinates detailed phases of engineering work as part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
  • May act as project leader or team leader to coordinate the work of other fully proficient engineers or other technical personnel on moderately sophisticated engineering projects and or studies.
  • Prepares and revises operating procedures and project outlines in connection with engineering assignments. Follows appropriate business procedures. Applies project management techniques.
  • Plans and crafts engineering projects involving moderately sophisticated features. Performs engineering and design work. Conducts field analysis, inspections, and performance tests. Records, compiles, and reports information. Develops testing plans. Interprets engineering specifications.
  • Prepares technical specifications for project services, equipment and materials for which there are few precedents. Completes related computations and drafts schematics and diagrams.
  • Coordinates project evaluations and implementation plans between individuals and sections. Ensures timely communications occur, as needed, on project activities.
  • Maintains knowledge of engineering principles. Keeps informed of technical developments, industry codes, and safety and/or regulatory requirements which have impact upon the respective engineering field. Fully develops knowledge of LCRA procedures, equipment, and systems.
  • Interprets engineering drawings and manufacturers specifications for field personnel. Coordinates and reviews the work of Engineering Associates to the extent of assuming professional responsibility for the work. Personally affixes seal or communicates vital changes to the responsible engineer for correction.
  • Upon request, prepares written (expert) testimony in support of LCRA's position in legal or regulatory proceedings.
  • In accordance with approved Supply Management processes and procedures, serves as owner's representative for outside engineering contracts.
  • May perform confined space entry.

You qualify with:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas
  • Driver's license

You are a great fit with:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with eight years' experience in a related field.
