Job Description
As St. Jude continues to grow, we recognize the need to maximize the funds we receive. One way we can do this is by developing and administering energy-efficient programs meant to optimize energy usage and reduce utility costs across the Institution. To achieve this goal, we will need a Energy Engineer to help guide us in increasing energy-efficiency and further developing renewable sources of energy.

Some of the main tasks for the Energy Engineer are:

* Commissioning and Retro-commissioning
* Develop Energy and Emissions Baseline
* Perform Energy audits and Impact analysis
* Lead Benchmarking
* Lead Equipment-level Energy Projects
* Support EEM Implementation
* Utility Rebate Programs and Incentives
* Demand Response
* Equipment Upgrades

You'll need a bachelor degree and at least 5 years related, progressively responsible experience in facilities energy-efficient planning, design, construction, or a related industry.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering required.

Minimum Experience:

  • Five (5) years of experience in progressively responsible positions in facilities energy-efficient planning, design, construction, or related industry.
  • Experience leading projects/ processes end-to-end including resource planning and management, and communication and collaboration with internal cross-functional teams and external partners preferred.
  • Experience developing and implementing department-wide process improvement initiatives.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only:

At least one of the following certifications:

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) from the governing body of National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) or
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) from the governing body of Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs energy studies and coordinates essential energy projects, including cost-saving initiatives, efficiency projects, and implementation of energy conservation programs.
  • Performs campus energy audits, retro-commissioning and recommends improvements, including ASHRAE I and II level audits (or equivalent), feasibility studies and reports. Analyzes and benchmarks performance using the EnergyStar Portfolio Manager (or equivalent software). Provides recommendations for capital allocation and the rebate recovery process.
  • Performs energy modeling and calculations using Excel spreadsheets.
  • Leads and supports implementation of energy-efficient, utility cost reduction standards, policies and procedures for facilities maintenance.
  • Lead short and long-range plans for implementing innovative energy innovations, and partners with Facilities, Planning, and Design & Construction to establish and implement a comprehensive energy reduction plan that aligns with existing facilities and renewal plans.
  • Executes utility incentive programs.
  • Ensures proper environmental conditions with cost-effective energy utilization with a primary goal to reduce site-wide energy consumption and to foster sustainability.
  • Coordinates the Campus Energy Dashboard building integration. Manages the appropriate energy and utility data within buildings and partners with departments and managers to present energy consumption information to building occupants to educate, impact behaviors and reduce energy consumption.
  • Leads campus utility systems energy reports, including steam, chilled water, electricity, natural gas, and water. Leads the overall execution of energy-efficient facilities maintenance projects and operational implementation of one or more compound programs of varying complexity.
  • Maintains strategic relationships with the utility provider MLGW.
  • Engage in hiring, performance management, and other people processes.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, to achieve the goals of the position

    Special Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

    • Working knowledge of Microsoft software to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Project, and similar tools.
    • Some experience presenting in team meetings and/or to senior management.
    • Able to negotiate and obtain the best value for professional services.
    • Able to prepare correspondence, reports, graphs, charts, sketches, spreadsheets. * Ability to anticipate the unexpected and to have contingency plans.
    • Ability to cope with conflicting priorities as perceived by others and to set own priorities to accomplish goals.
    • Detailed understanding of and fluency in energy efficient building strategies and rating systems. Direct experience designing, operating, or optimizing building mechanical, electrical, and building automation systems preferred.
    • Ability to effectively lead energy-efficiency programs.
    • Demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
    • Ability to listen and collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders.
    • Ability to work in a collaborative, strategic, and creative manner to effect change.
    • Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn new technical skills.
    • High degree of flexibility, adaptability, and general ability to respond to emerging opportunities and barriers in a constantly changing environment.

    Compensation

    In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $78,000 - $139,360 per year for the role of Energy Engineer.
