Vital Energy has an opening for an Operations Geologist in our Tulsa Office. This position will report to the Manager of Development & Planning and is responsible for working within a multiple disciplinary team to plan, execute, and evaluate drilling projects in the company's inventory. The successful candidate will be responsible for the evaluation and quality control of real-time geoscience data and using that information to guide decision making. The candidate will also direct geoscience contractors.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Subsurface interpretation, generating maps and cross sections
  • Oil and gas property evaluation
  • Deliver geologic insight and interpretation for daily drilling and completion operations
  • Manage geological and geophysical projects and contractors
  • Plan and execute drilling projects from location inventory
  • Provide geologic understanding for all aspects of the prospect lifecycle (appraisal, drilling, production, and abandonment)
  • Assist in well performance and lookback analysis
  • Evaluate behind pipe pay potential for uneconomic wells
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies to improve business performance
  • Quality control of real-time geologic data
  • Occasional field visits to observe and monitor operations

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Two plus (2+) years Petroleum Geology experience
  • Master's Degree in Geology preferred
  • Permian Basin experience preferred
  • Experience with well operations and reservoir characterization
  • Experience with geoscience interpretation software, Enverus Subsurface Studio and StarSteer preferred
  • Effective team player who takes an active role in team responsibilities
  • Strong time management skills
  • Capacity to work with minimum supervision
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Capability to work on multiple tasks
  • Confidence to make informed decisions based on imperfect datasets
  • Curiosity and desire to learn
  • Ability to present work and ideas to management

COMPENSATION:

Salary is commensurate with experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is normally performed in a climate-controlled environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of a normal office environment. No environmental hazards are encountered in performance of normal job duties. Occasional visits to site of operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work normally requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate computer keyboard at moderate skill level. Work may require occasional pushing, pulling, or carrying 20-pound objects such as files, documents, boxes, etc. Work involves sitting most of the time but may involve standing and walking for brief periods.
