Position Summary

This role leads and maintains the day-to-day construction schedule for the field execution phase of a capital project. You enjoy working with a variety of cross functional teams as well as coaching and mentoring. In addition, you have keen eye for risk avoidance and mitigation. You enjoy a challenge.

Responsibilities

The Construction Scheduler provides accurate and realistic assessments of construction durations for the project.

Maintains overall, integrated (to include all contractors) construction schedule during the construction project cycle, incorporating and monitoring construction contractor progress and schedules.

Assist and/or provide construction contractor in schedule development for input into the master construction schedule.

Coach and mentor contractor and subcontractors on schedule development.

Analyzes the contractor's weekly construction scheduling plans and monthly schedule updates for comparison to reported progress and alignment of cost forecasts.

Can identify potential schedule risks, risk mitigation and improvement opportunities through his/her analysis of the overall construction schedule, as well as schedules provided by the individual contractors, which are incorporated into the overall schedule.

Bridge the gap between multiple construction contractors and overall construction schedule management, providing information and data that enables the Project Teams to make better decisions.

Provide recommendations on cycle time reduction opportunities and techniques as applied to construction and startup scheduling.

Perform sampling of installed quantities to support reported progress, appropriate on all construction contract strategies.

Interact frequently with a Project Construction Manager; robust timely communication is a must.

Ensures construction schedule is properly resource loaded, as well as gain alignment between contract scope of work and the construction schedule completeness.

Performs construction staffing density checks or staffing limitation checks to analyze and validate schedule durations and forecast completion dates.

Performs critical path analysis to determine problem areas in regard to project schedule and resource overloads; alerts the project team to critical scheduling issues and potential alternatives.

Ensures Shutdown/Turnaround scope is integrated properly in the contractor's construction planning.

Produces various schedules and reports for Construction Management showing both Baseline and current schedule, and variances against the Baseline including, but not limited to, start and finish dates, durations, earned progress, and resource levels.

Facilitates the Contractor Schedule Expectations Meeting for each construction contractor and ensures that contractor provides schedules and reports as specified in the Award Package / contract.

Provide written analysis of schedule variances, impacts and mitigation opportunities.

Qualifications

10+ years of experience in construction scheduling on capital and expense projects.

Proficient in Microsoft Project and P6.

Full understanding of Earned Value Management, progress tracking versus baseline and physical progress management

Ability to attend job walks in process areas and construction sites.

Climb stairs in multiple levels of a process area.

S./A.A. degree in engineering sciences recommended but not required. Prior chemical or heavy industry experience.

Practical understanding of piping, mechanical, electrical, civil/structural construction.

Industry standard best practice project scheduling processes and their application.

Use of industry accepted applications for estimating, along with the standard Microsoft applications - Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Broad understanding of field construction disciplines and activities that are necessary to construct and start-up chemical processes.

Knowledgeable and able to read / understand engineering drawings, in particular P&ID's and piping isometric drawings.

Knowledgeable and possess a clear understanding of all contractor trade disciplines.

Strong communication skills and ability to work with multiple teams.

Education Requirements

High school diploma: A.S./A.A. degree in engineering sciences recommended but not required.
