SUMMARY:

The Faculty of Texas A&M University-Commerce Nursing Department assists the Director in implementing the mission of the nursing program to provide quality baccalaureate and graduate education. The faculty is responsible for all aspects of classroom/clinical instruction. Assigned duties may occur during the day, evening, or on weekends. Clinical Professors of all ranks are terminally degreed faculty who meet the Texas Board of Nursing requirements. As clinical faculty, the primary focus is on teaching, scholarship of practice, and service to the department, campus and profession.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Teaching

1. Provide and evaluate classroom and clinical instruction for assigned courses.

2. Assess student needs and refer students as necessary to counseling or learning support resources.

3. Maintains necessary documentation of learning outcomes.

4. Contribute to the ongoing development of the program through curriculum revision and refinement.

5. Assist the Director in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the department.

6. Maintain personal growth and development in teaching/learning strategies through ongoing faculty development.

B. Scholarship

1. Peer-reviewed writing, research, or presentations at the local, state/regional, and/or national level related to teaching or practice area.

2. Publish or present op ed or education materials (non-peer reviewed

4. Remain current with the changing trends in nursing education and practice.

5. Maintain clinical expertise through one or more of these activities

C. Profession

1. Assess and design projects and processes to meet Nursing and community health care needs.

2. Participate in the selection and orientation of new clinical faculty.

3. Maintain satisfactory relationships with clinical agencies. Seek out and evaluate new clinical resources.

4. Participate in campus-wide and departmental committees.

5. Represent the department and university in the community

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Doctorate in Nursing or related field. A master's in Nursing.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Five years practice as a RN or APRN. Three years academic teaching experience (community college or university). Scholarly publication record or demonstration of scholarly potential commensurate with clinical assistant professor rank. Practice experience in one of these areas: Medical-surgical, mzZaternal-child, pediatrics, psychiatric mental health, or family nurse practitioner.
  • Ability to: Work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and students to meet accreditation and industry standards.
  • Licensing/Professional Certifications: Unencumbered Texas RN/APRN license or ability to obtain.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience teaching baccalaureate or graduate nursing (classroom and clinical)
  • Certification in a clinical practice area or a certified nurse educator
  • MSN in Nursing Education
  • Online and face-to-face teaching experience.

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:

Supervises adjunct faculty teaching in the program.
