Salary Range: $54,000 per 9-month appointment, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours: up to 40 hours per week, exempt.

Essential Functions

The Department of Chemistry at UTSA is currently seeking to fill up to three positions at the level of Assistant Professor of Instruction. These positions are designed to enhance our ability to teach Basic and General Chemistry to a broad audience with divergent science and math backgrounds. The courses include elementary chemistry content along with modules on academic readiness, number sense, scientific identity, acclimation to university life and strategies for learning effectiveness. The courses are built on an active learning format and highlight academic engagement and self-efficacy, while providing students a sense of belonging both in at the university and department.

Duties
  1. Teach Chemistry, including lecture and laboratory courses in Basic Chemistry and General Chemistry.
  2. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in Chemistry or related field of study.
  • 2 years teaching experience in Chemistry at the collegiate level.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced training or work experience in Chemistry.
  • Advanced training in Education.
  • Experience teaching large class sizes (75-100 students).
  • Experience using evidence-based and/or active learning teaching methods.
  • 5 or more years teaching experience in Chemistry at the collegiate level.

  • The anticipated start date for this position is August 1, 2024.

Working Conditions
  • Will work around chemicals and chemical fumes.
  • Will work in large lecture halls.



This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
