Job Description

Thank you for your interest in joining Itron, an industry leader enabling utilities and cities to better manage energy and water. Itron is seeking a firmware design engineer to be a valued cross-functional research and development team member contributing to board support packages (BSP) and an embedded Linux platform architecture. As design engineer you'll be involved in the entire product cycle: concept, planning, requirements, development, and verification.

This position is a great opportunity for a recent Bachelor of Science graduate in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering. You'll appreciate the flexible onsite and remote working schedule, and the abundance of opportunities for technical and professional career growth with mentor assistance.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ubuntu container development environment, source code management, make system, and debug environments.
  • Embedded Linux firmware boot process: bootloaders, kernel, kernel drivers, device tree.
  • Embedded firmware user space: file system design and types, process types, resource management, inter-process communication, database access.

Required Skills and Experience

  • C and C++ languages, bash and python scripting languages.
  • Raspberry Pi integration into custom lab setups for local and remote access.
  • Hardware integration and debugging utilizing JTAG emulators, oscilloscope, logic and protocol analyzers.
  • I/O interfaces, peripherals, and system components: GPIO, I2C, SPI, QSPI, USB, SDMMC, DDR, DMA, NAND.
  • Good interpersonal verbal, communication, and documentation skills.

Education: Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.

Travel: 0 - 5%

Location: Raleigh, NC and West Union, SC

Physical Demands: This is a typical office job, with no special physical requirements or unusual work environment.
