Brief Description:

The State Income Tax Manager is responsible for ensuring day to day compliance with all state and local tax laws. In addition, this role will also carry responsibility for preparing and overseeing preparation for filing of state and local income taxes and tax provisions. This role will ensure that the Company's programs and policies are compliant with regulatory requirements and align with the organization's business goals.

This position will work under the direction of the Income Tax Director.

Detailed Description:

  • Monitor current state income tax developments and legislative changes and advise Income Tax Director and Vice President, Tax on tax issues relevant to the Company.
  • Perform various state and local tax research analysis and memo documentation.
  • Assist with Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX) control documentation.
  • Manage all state tax compliance, consulting, and reporting.
  • Manage and train a team of internal tax analysts and seniors.
  • Partner with Income Tax, Sales & Use team to reconcile tax reporting.
  • Utilize tax research skills to provide state and local tax advice.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end state income tax provisions.
  • Manage valuation allowance analysis.
  • Manage preparation and filing of all state income tax returns and supporting workpapers.
  • Manage the preparation of all state income tax estimates and extensions.
  • Prepare taxable income projections as needed.
  • Maintain fixed asset roll forwards and tax depreciation calculations as needed for state.
  • Maintain all state tax attribute trackers.
  • Assist with various tax planning initiatives as needed by the Income Tax Director and Vice President of Tax.
  • Continually strive to improve processes and assist with implementing best practices and automation.
  • Other duties and projects, as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of a broad range of U.S. state and local tax law provisions.
  • RIA Checkpoint, Corptax, Oracle, SAP, and ERP systems experience
  • Strong research and writing skills, and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and soft skills.
  • Ability to make and support decisions regarding tax matters.
  • Must be exemplary in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work under time-sensitive deadlines and maintain a calm and professional demeanor when adversity is encountered.
  • Must be able to work independently, multi-task and prioritize under pressure and within timeline constraints.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor'sdegree in Finance, Accounting or related field of study.
  • 8+ years' experience with public corporate tax department, Big 4 accounting firm, or combination
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • 5+ years of managerial/supervisory experience.

Working Conditions:

Work is primarily in a climate controlled / office environment with minimal safety / health hazard potential. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, or walk with occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor, bending and frequent near vision use for reading and use of computer, telephone, and other office equipment. The job may require some overtime including weekend or holidays.
