REPORTS TO: Engineering Supervisor
FUNCTION: Responsible for the design, specification, and maintenance of an assigned group of company products, which may include creation of previously non-existent products or modification of existing products. Product enhancements, cost reduction and design for manufacturability are included within this responsibility. Technical authority for a broad range of company products, providing coaching and assistance to lower-level engineers and technicians.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform engineering duties required to analyze new and existing products in the areas of design, function, manufacturability, styling, and other factors to provide for design simplification, standardization, reliability, parts interchangeability, cost reduction, etc.
Prepare drawings, bills-of-materials, work instructions, Installation, Operation and Maintenance Manuals, Marketing collateral, technical documentation and other data as required or oversee the activities of Product Specialists or others as they prepare the documents.
Examine and analyze new applications / designs of products to determine feasibility of operation, manufacturing and application.
Creation, alteration, and refinement of mechanical part / assembly drawings and Bill of Materials to capture design intent and document the key aspects necessary to adapt company products to specific customer requirements and product applications.
Communicate with Sales, other engineers in different departments, and Product Specialists on the development of product modifications or creation of new company products.
Apply applicable ASME, NEMA, ATEX, ANSI, TEMA, API, CE, CRN or other codes and standards as required.
Assist in the testing and debugging of assigned products in the shop.
Maintain ongoing project requirements, schedules, and specifications for multiple projects in a deadline-based environment.
Work with other departments to resolve DMR issues with orders and/or equipment in the shop and coordinate ECO processing to revise designs as necessary.
May be assigned supervisory role for Drafters, Designers, and/or other administrative staff, which would include:
Schedule and assign work; oversee employee productivity and quality; maintain time and attendance records; administer company rules, regulations and policies governing employment; prepare performance reviews with appropriate documentation throughout the year; address disciplinary issues.
Responsible for employee development. Work with subordinates to create individual performance expectations; provide ongoing feedback regarding progress toward established goals and track progress; provide employee coaching and training; recommend outside training opportunities.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Education/Training
Engineering degree required (Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical based on need at time of hire).
Experience:
Extensive design and application experience with similar products.
Minimum 7 years industrial experience, with design exposure to most of the following (based on Engineering specialty):
Mechanical or Chemical:
1- and 2-phase flow of fluids in piping systems and heat exchangers and Heat exchanger performance including condensing and evaporation (as applicable)
ASME pressure vessel design (as applicable)
Thermodynamics
Controls
Machine design
Refrigeration systems
Piping and Pipe supports
Seismic Design and analysis
Pump, valve and other electrical/mechanical component selection
Material selection
Metallurgy
Manufacturing (machining, welding, assembly, quality)
Electrical:
Manufacturing (electrical assembly, quality)
Microprocessor programming for instrumentation and controllers
Analog and digital electronic circuit design, testing and development
Current electrical code knowledge (NEC, CE) and applicable symbols, electronic equipment and symbols, instrument symbols.
Thorough understanding of wiring techniques.
Ability to perform calculations required for sizing electrical protective devices.
Skills and Knowledge
Excellent verbal communication skills

Computer applications, including the following programs (based on Engineering specialty): Visual Basic, MS Access, MS Excel, MS Word, Solidworks, AutoCad, C Language, Assembly/Microprocessor programming.
Read and Interpret blueprints, P&ID, and other technical drawings
Able to complete projects with minimal instructions and guidance
Strong interpretations of project specifications and able to properly assess risks and make decisions. Provides recommendations.
Able to lead projects and assist lower level engineers and technicians.
