Salary Range: $25/hour.

Hours: Part-time up to 19 hours per week, non-exempt.

Temporary position - Summer 2024.

Essential Functions

Job Summary

Function:
Provide academic instruction to pre-college participants in the TRIO program. Instructors will plan lessons, provide instruction, and ensure participants are showing academic progress. The Summer Academy will operate from June 3 through July 5. Instructors will teach at Southside High School Monday through Wednesday during morning hours. The remaining hours will be towards lesson planning and evaluating students.

Core Responsibilities
  1. Attends all required professional development days before the program start date.
  2. Reports to class and other assigned duties on time.
  3. Be available at least one hour per day for one-on-one tutoring.
  4. Attends weekly staff meetings.
  5. Creates lesson plans for daily/weekly instruction.
  6. Provides both the students with clear and concise grading procedures and a description of learning outcomes.
  7. Administers all quizzes and exams to participants.
  8. Grades all homework, quizzes, and exams.
  9. Compiles grades and submits final grades to the Project Director as required.
  10. Serves as a positive role model and facilitates the participants' personal growth and academic motivation/ achievement.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid teaching certificate.
  • Experience in teaching K-12 students.
  • Experience implementing and delivering instructional materials and evaluation tools.
  • Proficiency in inquiry-based learning pedagogy.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and organization skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with grades 9-12th.
  • Fluent in Spanish.

Working Conditions
  • Office environment.

  • Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events.
  • Occasional after-hours and weekend work or overtime may be required.

Physical Demands:
  • Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.
  • Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.

This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
