SUMMARY:

The Associate Director of International Programs, reporting to the Director of International Programs within the Division of Student Affairs, serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) and a Alternate Responsible Officer. The Associate Director is responsible for ensuring OIP is in compliance with all Department of State (DOS), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) regulations for F-1 and J-1 students. This position will supervise advising staff, graduate assistants, and lead OIP projects and initiatives in consultation with the Director.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as a senior functional lead for all F-1 employment matters that require applications to USCIS including OPT, STEM OPT, employment with an international organization and others. This involves constant monitoring for issues requiring attention, identifying inconsistencies and implementing best practices.
  • Serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer, ensuring Texas A&M University-Commerce students, scholars, and university departments comply with all government regulations regarding international students and scholars.
  • Advises international students and scholars on immigration, academic, financial, personal, cultural adjustment, and cross-cultural communication matters.
  • Supports the various activities of the office including study abroad, international student and scholar services, faculty and student exchanges; and university agreements with partner institutions.
  • Assists with maintenance of international student records, databases, admissions related processing and other advising related administrative tasks, such as preparing memos, researching and preparing reports, estimated expenses, federal documents, and applications
  • Monitors changes in immigration law and develops strategic planning around regulation communication and implementation.
  • Prepares and conducts training sessions as needed for campus administrators and international students.
  • Oversees and ensures updated web content related to students, especially pertaining to student employment matters and changes to agency guidance and instructions.
  • Manages special projects as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    Experience/ Knowledge/ Skills: Four (4) years related work experience. Knowledge of USA immigration laws and regulations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Outstanding organizational skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to: : Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to work with students from foreign countries whose first language may not be English. Ability to positively interact with various groups of students (including graduate and undergraduate), parents, guidance counselors and college and university personnel. Ability to consistently meet deadlines and handle information confidentially.

  • Other Requirements: Available to occasional nights and weekends. Must be eligible to work in the United States.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of a second language preferred
  • Knowledge of Terra Dotta software preferred
  • Master's degree
  • At least three (3) years senior administrative experience in international programs (e.g., working with a study abroad office, international student admissions, and/or hosting international visitors)

Full-time staff, Student Workers, and Graduate Assistants
