About the Department and/or College

Founded in 1925 as one of the university's four original colleges, the College of Arts & Sciences is comprised of 15 departments, offering a wide variety of courses and programs in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, and natural sciences. The college is the largest on TTU's campus, representing more than a quarter of the university's student population.

Major/Essential Functions

The assistant director of marketing and communications for A&S will work closely with the college's departments to aid in marketing, as well as serve as a liaison between the college and its departments. The individual will be highly focused on the website presence and development for the college and its departments, so strong HTML and coding skills are a must. This position will require someone who is a quick learner and has the motivation to accomplish many tasks on their own, as well as be highly personable and outgoing to communicate effectively with those within the college.

  • Serve as the primary web editor for all Arts & Sciences webpages, including departmental websites
  • Maintain all A&S webpages for a consistent design that features timely information
  • Serve as the main liaison between A&S and departments to assist with all edits and changes to departmental websites
  • Create a process to ensure that such edits and changes are done in an efficient and timely manner
  • Oversee all redesigns to departmental websites that do not feature the updated A&S website templates
  • Ensure that all A&S webpages feature enhanced SEO to increase website traffic
  • Work with the director and coordinator to create a strategic plan on how to best utilize digital advertising, i.e. Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Ads, etc.
  • Proofread and edit all content/news stories that will be placed on A&S and departmental webpages
  • Serve as a liaison between the A&S marketing & communications team a departments for tasks such as design work, social media assistance, etc.
  • Assist the coordinator with the day-to-day management of A&S and departmental social media channels
  • Assist the coordinator with overseeing the A&S student assistant(s)
  • Assist the marketing & communications team with any day-to-day issues including - but not limited to - writing news stories, creating quick designs, posting to social media, etc.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in the area of specialization or closely related field. Three years of related administrative and technical experience. Additional job related education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, marketing or a related field.
  • Strong HTML, web design and coding skills.
  • Strong written skills, including academic writing experience.
  • Knowledge of AP Style.
  • Problem solver who works well under pressure.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically with Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Experience with OmniUpdate or similar CMS tool.
  • Prior history in working in higher education.
  • Knowledge of the history and traditions of Texas Tech University.
