Perform assignments associated with designing Instrument equipment, components, or systems.

Responsibilities

Prepare complete design packages which may include, but not be limited to, preliminary, conceptual, and construction deliverables as well as engineering calculations.

Prepare detailed drawings of parts and assemblies from layouts, designs and working drawings including necessary projections, sectional views and standard specifications.

Interpret verbal or written direction to initiate a preliminary design.

Perform sizing and load calculations

Check detailed sketches and drawings for project applicability and optimal construction.

Check and verify accuracy of drawings prepared by others.

Prepare bills of material (BOM) and specifications when drawings are complete. Revise drawings and BOM consistent with engineering changes.

Implement revisions and change control per company standards at the direction of engineers.

Assemble information and reference drawings from a variety of sources.

Continually look for product improvements and cost reductions.

Confirm specification and code compliance, equipment compatibility, and optimal cost savings.

Assist with performing field surveys, documenting existing conditions, and/or recommending various design solutions.

Ensure accuracy of completed drawings before final release and verify drawings meet company and industry standards.

Check field red-lined drawings and generate accurate as-built drawings as needed.

Assist with proposal compilation utilizing computer aided design equipment and/or graphic tools to prepare high-level layouts and sketches.

Utilize 2D or 3D computer aided design software to create layouts of systems, devices and components, and create fabrication and assembly drawings.

Create technical specifications to facilitate the procurement, fabrication, and installation of components.

Create documentation required to process Engineering/Design Change Orders.

Utilize engineering sketches, specifications and supporting documents in the designing, detailing, documenting, and verifying of parts, subassemblies, assemblies or system configurations.

Identify dimensions, angles, curvatures, and materials necessary for optimal construction.

Analyze the effect of proposed changes for proper fit and/or interference problems and recommend possible solutions or alternate construction options.

Produce drawings and deliverables utilizing company standards within project-approved schedule and budget.

Complete man-hour estimates for discipline specific scope of work.

Maintain proper file management in accordance with company and industry standards.

Interact and communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, vendors and other consultants.

Perform field data gathering when required to complete project deliverables within approved project scope and schedule.

Track and maintain a continued awareness of overall schedule and budget for assigned projects.

Develop detailed design schedules in coordination with the scheduler/planner, engineering, and project management personnel.

Confirm that discipline-specific drawing quality is correct, consistent and legible.

Comply with all company and client health, safety, security and environmental (HSSE) standards as well as federal and local HSSE regulations.

Actively participate in company and client hazard identification and observation programs, and immediately report any unsafe acts, conditions or incidents to your supervisor.

Qualifications

Required: A minimum of 10+ years of technical work experience in the Instrument field in the petrochemical industry.

Experience based on knowledge, skills, and abilities may qualify with the approval of the Director of Engineering and the Instrument Engineering Manager.

TWIC Card and/or ability to obtain.

Previous in plant experience a must.

Ability to work a hybrid work schedule.

Must be proficient with Autocad/Bluebeam and MS Office

Plant Site Position: Site walk downs required as needed

Computer Skills

Must demonstrate proficiency in utilizing manual drafting techniques for a variety of non-routine assignments and a working knowledge in CADD equipment for a variety of assignments. Ability to learn new software as required.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form. Must possess problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve issues involving multiple variables using a logical thought process..

While performing the duties of this job, the Designer is regularly required to use hands and fingers to touch, grasp, and feel. Must be able to reach with hands and arms, talk clearly, or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit, as well as climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 25 pounds (such as surveying/scanning equipment, etc.). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision depth perception, and ability to focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may periodically be required to travel to client jobsites, usually petrochemical production facilities, and must have the ability to access all areas as required, including climbing ladders and stairs. Therefore, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions; and the risk of electric shock. The noise level at some industrial jobsites can be loud to moderate depending on location. The Designer is expected to use all precautions and to wear all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to insure their safety.

Education Requirements

The individual may be a recent graduate (or nearing completion) of a technical college, but should have knowledge and skills in basic drafting techniques and procedures as learned in school. Due to a lack of experience, knowledge of industry standards is not required initially.
