As a Senior Functional Safety Engineer, you will consult, lead functional safety design, and act as the technical lead and/or design authority for Safety Instrumented System projects in Renewable, Oil & Gas, Chemical, Power Generation, Water treatment industries both in the United States and globally. You will be making technical recommendations and enhancing customer satisfaction by providing excellent service. In this role, you may consult on LOPA (Layers Of Protection Analysis), conduct SIF (Safety Instrumented Function) designs as well as engineer, develop/design and test instrumented safety systems. Your main goal is to ensure successful delivery on projects focusing on budget, on time delivery, in line with specifications and with excellent quality.

Your responsibilities

  • Work closely with customers to shape and deliver solutions, and utilize feedback to drive delivery of improvements for medium to large complex projects
  • Cost effectively execute Safety Instrumented System project deliverables on time in accordance with specifications, standards and safety requirements
  • Provide Consultancy to customers on Functional Safety requirements and designs
  • Design SIFs and ensure compliance to IEC61511/IEC61508/ISA84
  • Consult on Safety Requirement Specification documents
  • Ensure projects are following ABBs Functional Safety Management System and help enhance this process to improve quality, efficiency and safety
  • Resolve technical issues both remotely and at customer sites in US and abroad
  • Design, Test and Commission Automation Enclosures, Control Logic and Human Machine Interfaces with ABB or third party Control Systems
  • Create and deliver work plans, budgets and risk assessments
  • Develop your management skills by working with entry-level employees
  • Develop, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures and tools, reporting inefficiencies and identifying improvement opportunities
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately up to 25 percent of the time
Your background

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or other engineering degree and minimum 5 years of experience in engineering, working as an Engineer with
  • Distributed Control Systems and at least 3 years of experience with Functional Safety or Safety Instrumented Systems
  • Sound knowledge of engineering techniques, processes and tools
  • A strong focus on safe work practices and dedication to following workplace safety guidelines
  • A high level of self motivation, curiosity and a desire to learn about new technologies
  • A collaborative approach of working, demonstrating strong communication and leadership skills
  • Candidates must be able to read, write and speak English fluently
  • Position will be based in Cleveland, OH or Houston, TX
  • Reimbursement for relocation is not available
