This role is part of the Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance team. This team is focused on monitoring and assessing processes that guide Blue Origin's design, manufacturing, and operations, ensuring system safety engineering, environmental health, and safety, product integrity, and continuous improvement processes.

As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for continuous improvement of business and operational processes for various spaceflight tools, processes, and systems. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of Continuous Improvement. As a team, we will help build a Lean culture, improving processes and process development within a workplace culture that emphasizes accountability, discipline, and attention to detail at all levels. You must have a passion for solving complex problems and providing operable solutions; act with minimal direction and on your own initiative; and be adaptable as you will work on a variety of applications and systems. We are looking for an individual that can help teams resolve and implement innovative process improvement initiatives that will support rocket production and development. You will report to the Blue Origin Director of Continuous Improvement. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight!

Van Horn Specific information:

Being at the heart of Blue Origin operations, the West Texas Site in Van Horn, TX offers eligible employee's additional attractive financial incentives to supplement their competitive base earnings, including a living allowance and relocation assistance. Eligibility for these additional benefits is based on the employee's ability to permanently relocate to Van Horn, TX, or travel to Van Horn from another Blue location a minimum of 50% of the time.

Responsibilities:
  • Act as a leader to facilitate positive change in a problem solving and Continuous Improvement culture on site and in related areas of the company
  • Proactively initiate and Lead teams through the identification of improvement opportunities and coordinate/lead improvement teams with a core focus on elimination of non-value added activities to help develop the lean culture.
  • Apply lean tools to implement the continuous improvement vision across the organization with a focus on reduction of waste, elimination of hand offs and reduction in process cycle time resulting in multi-functional transformation which delivers consistent, year-over-year results
  • Support multi-functional teams in building problem solving capabilities and leading kaizen events to ensure all operations perform in a consistent and best-in-class manner
  • Facilitate and lead activities such as Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Problem Solving, 5S, Kaizen and SMED events to support production, quality, and product development initiatives.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a B.S. in Engineering or Science
  • 7 years of industry experience in an engineering or production field with at least 5 years process improvement experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience developing training, and teaching Continuous Improvement tools and methodologies
  • Previously held full-time Continuous Improvement or Industrial Engineering role
  • Experience leading Continuous Improvement projects and kaizens
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, or comparable certification
  • <10% travel; ability to travel to other Blue Origin locations to support cross-site initiatives.
  • Demonstrated track record of resourcefulness and success from previous assignments and working with interdisciplinary and cross-functional teams.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired:
  • Experience with low volume sophisticated manufacturing systems
  • Self-starter, who can lead numerous projects/Kaizens while working across business unit and functional organizations
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9000 Quality Management System and/or related quality systems and programs
