General Description

The Product Application Engineer provides support in the areas of thermal performance assessment, structural review, system application, and development of new and existing products. Determines the suitability of product application, using knowledge of specified materials along with manufacturing, fabrication and installation processes. Works with clients, vendors and internal resources to analyze and resolve problems, and improve product performance and reliability.

Key Accountabilities

Accuracy:Provide accurate responses to customer requests.

Profitability: Maximize sales by recommending appropriate products and solutions.

Customer Service: Build strong client relationships through accurate and timely communications.

Consistency: Provide a consistently superior level of service. Consistently follow established processes.

Timeliness: Provide timely service to clients. Act with a sense of urgency.

Principal Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Performs thermal modeling using Therm and Window, and other custom software.

  • Create design aids to help client access thermal performance information easily.

  • Create NFRC Bid Reports.

  • Process NFRC certifications.

  • Provides technical support to clients, architects, vendors and manufacturing.

  • Perform complex structural analysis on aluminum extrusions and fenestration components.

  • Reviews projects for proper use of Apogee AFS products, with regard to performance requirements.

  • Acts as liaison among purchasing, manufacturing and clients to resolve product issues.

  • Investigates and resolves product performance issues in the field.

  • Represents Apogee AFS Engineering in meetings with clients, architects and contractors.

  • Initiates and manages product development projects.

  • Develops standard details and installation instructions for new and existing products.

  • Creates new aluminum extrusion and part drawings from sketches.

  • Creates job specific detail drawings for clients and architects.

  • Checks aluminum extrusions and parts for compliance with drawings.

  • Builds samples as needed to check for proper design and assembly.

  • Participates in product testing process.

  • Develops and supports engineering policies and procedures in conjunction with Engineering Manager.

  • Helps to ensure that departmental goals are completed on time, accurately, and within budget.

  • Responsible for following documented procedures as well as producing and ensuring product meets or exceeds established product specifications.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Architecture.

  • 5 years aluminum storefront and curtain wall experience with full understanding of product performance and application.

  • Proficient in Therm

  • NFRC Certified Thermal Simulator

  • NFRC Ace preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications.

  • Understanding of manufacturing and business processes.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software.
