Job Description

This position reports to the Jackson, MS office. The selected candidate must reside within 30 miles/30 minutes of the Jackson office.

Intermediate professional position responsible for new construction and maintenance of existing natural gas pipeline systems. Develop designs, prepares cost estimates and project scopes, tracks costs and coordinates resources.


Primary Duties
1. Prepares project designs and estimates and/or manages prepared projects. Designs must incorporate reliable, economical, safe and timely expansion of the division's natural gas distribution facilities.
2. Develops conceptual designs, cost estimates and project scope for proposed capital, O&M, marketing and reimbursable projects. Obtains necessary approvals from project sponsors.
3. Evaluates the condition/adequacy of facilities to ensure quality design, construction and operation of natural gas system additions, expansions and modifications in accordance with Company policies and accepted standards to meet the needs of new and existing customers within budgetary guidelines.
4. Responsible for project closing and accurate posting of regulatory compliance records, as-built drawings, financial and other closing information.
5. Performs analysis and design for transmission and/or distribution facilities, regulation and metering stations and/or cathodic protection systems.
6. Responsible for review of designs prepared by outside engineering firms and non-affiliated third parties to ensure compliance with project scope and contract requirements.
7. Coordinates right-of-way functions to ensure all easements and construction permits are secured within budget and schedule constraints and damage claims are effectively resolved.
8. Follows projects through the construction process to ensure timely completion and accurate posting of construction documents, as-built data and financial records.
9. Communicates with customers and other work groups to ensure internal and external expectations are met.
10. Incorporates safety in the design, operation and/or management of facilities.
11. Effectively manages assigned projects while maintaining work product reliability and volume.
12. Coordinates on site work activities and communications. Represents the work group/organization in presentations to management or similar company settings.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Educational/Experience Level:

  • High school diploma and 5 years' experience in project management, natural gas, utility and/or other related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Associate's degree in engineering, science, business or a related field is preferred.

Communication Skills:

  • Requires the ability to communicate with internal and/or external customer to obtain and/or provide explanations and/or information on technical concepts to individuals with experience or knowledge of the technical area.

Numeric Skills:

  • Requires the ability to perform algebraic, trigonometric and geometric operations and/or moderately complex statistical methods.

Computer Skills:

  • Requires a working knowledge of various software applications to create documents, reports and graphical design.

Work Conditions:

  • This position will work in both indoor and outdoor environments. Requires occasionally performing activities including, but not limited to, bending, stooping, grasping, reaching, twisting, turning and/or lifting.

Other Requirements:

  • Requires the acute sense of sight and hearing (corrected or uncorrected) and strong sense of smell.
  • As a Safety-Sensitive position, pre and post-employment screenings, including but not limited to drug testing as outlined by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration(PHMSA), and motor vehicle record (MVR) background checks are required.
