WHAT WE OFFER

As an Industrial Hygienist, you will support and implement health, safety, environmental, and quality management systems within the organization. Ensure compliance with regulations, promoting a safe and sustainable work environment, and driving continuous improvement in HSEQ practices

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of annual IH monitoring plans.

  • Review and update the site Workplace Exposure Assessment (WEA).

  • Provide leadership on exposure assessment regulations and issues as they apply to the Baytown site and surrounding community. These include, but are not limited to, exposure assessment for OSHA general and chemical specific regulations as well as noise standards and recommendations for exposure reduction.

  • Responsible for preparation of IH monitoring reports, communications, and data analysis/organization.

  • Conduct regular field audits and assessments to identify workplace hazards and recommend corrective actions.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulations, standards and business requirements including, but not limited to, OSHA general and chemical specific regulations, noise standards, PPE, Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, Ergonomics, Heat Stress, Laboratory Safety, TDSHS Radiation Control Program regulations, TCEQ Tier II Chemical Reporting and EPA SARA Title III Sections 311 and 312.

  • Serve as a resource to the site and NAFTA region for regulatory interpretation and guidance.

  • Develop and deliver training on IH topics.

  • Accountable for collecting and verifying regulatory data sitewide by working with unit leaders and Product Safety & Regulatory Affairs (PSRA) as well as submitting regulatory-required compliance reports, such as the Tier II report and EPA SARA Title III Section 311 and 312 required reporting, to site leadership and governmental agencies at the local, State and Federal levels.

  • Lead field IH assessments to identify hazards, contributing factors, and appropriate corrective actions.

  • Provide IH support to site operations, maintenance, contractors, and the NAFTA region.

  • Act as Backup RSO to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations including, but not limited to, TDSHS and DOT.

  • Stay abreast of regulatory changes impacting areas of responsibility.

  • Update Covestro site procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with new or revised regulations.

  • Act as a liaison to the surrounding community, the Planning group in the field for the Emergency Operations Center, for any industrial hygiene concerns or issues, especially during releases or other upsets.

  • Perform SAFER modeling to support the Emergency Operating Center during releases or upsets.

  • Lead industrial hygiene projects at the site (such as departmental projects), region or global level as needed/requested.

  • Lead sitewide committees, such as the Ergonomics Team or Lab Safety Committee, and serve as a member of the Safety Council to drive continuous improvement.

  • Lead site investigations to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.

WHAT YOU OFFER

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 3+ years work experience in Industrial Hygiene, or related technical discipline.

  • A Master's degree with 2+ years work experience in Industrial Hygiene, or related technical discipline

  • The eligibility to apply for and obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within a reasonable timeframe

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification as a CIH and/or CSP

  • Experience in chemical manufacturing environment

  • Proficiency in Cority IH software

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Technical knowledge of exposure assessment methods, statistical analysis of data and methods for hazard recognition, evaluation and control are essential.

  • Problem-solving skills are needed for risk characterization and formulation of mitigation options.

  • Knowledge of current regulatory requirements under regulations such as: OSHA general and chemical specific regulations, noise standards, PPE, Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, Ergonomics, TDSHS Radiation Control Program regulations, TCEQ Tier II Chemical Reporting and EPA SARA Title III Sections 311 and 312, is required.

  • Excellent communication skills (writing, presentation) as well as interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively communicate with all levels within the organization as well as with external members of the community, regulatory agencies and industry representatives and associations.

  • Technical experience with field data collection, interpretation and communication is required in this position.

  • Experience with plume modeling, especially SAFER, is a plus.

  • Experience in occupational health, including a strong knowledge of chemical hazards and associated occupational diseases, is needed to work closely and effectively with medical personnel as well as to provide effective support in the Emergency Operations Center.
