Job Summary:

The Production Engineering Manager leads a team of 7-9 Production Engineers to provide technical guidance and oversight of day-to-day plant operations. This team is part of the Corporate Engineering and Technology group for TPC and includes production engineers at all operating sites. The Production Engineering Manager reports to the Director of Engineering with accountability to the Plant Manager.

Job Roles:

  • Execute full administrative responsibilities for a team of 7-9 Production Engineers.
  • Ensure alignment with established work processes & deliverables including all operations, engineering, and capital programs.
  • Drive metrics review and development of action plans for optimal operation of process units on a daily, weekly, monthly basis.
  • Ensure development and maintenance of tracking tools for Operating KPI's
  • Coordinate technical development of Production Engineers.
  • Coordinate with Production Managers and Process Engineering Manager to ensure proper prioritization and deployment of technical oversight for plant processing issues.
  • Drive production engineering team to lead process monitoring
  • Drive technical ownership pieces of PSM and work with other Technology functions and EHS&S to ensure company priorities around safety and compliance are met
  • Drive process training, discipline, and quality, leveraging resources as appropriate, ensuring projects are compliant with TPC Group standards including the safety and operability of the new and modified assets.
  • Drive the development of the TPC Way culture in the engineering environment, leading by example, serve as a role model in the application of TPC Values.
  • Ensure technical team address environmental compliance requirements
  • Interact with R&D for proper technical resources allocation for scale up and catalyst development efforts

Education, Licensure, and Experience:

  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 8+ years' experience in Chemical Industry in process engineering, process operations, process development engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in supervision of technical or operating staff.
  • Experience with PSM and its functional application to an operating chemical plant

Role Specific Knowledge:

  • Critical thinking, resourceful, results driven.
  • Use fact based, structured decision-making process to initiate and support appropriate actions.
  • Practical experience in an operating refinery, petrochemical, or chemical plant.
  • Practical experience with distillation
  • Experience in managing a portfolio of programs or projects.
  • Command of general chemical engineering principles and calculations.
  • Experience with Aspen+ and or similar process modeling tools.
  • Experience with process historian and/or data monitoring tools such as IP21 and or OSI PI
  • Knowledge of Process Safety design concepts and documentation requirements and their application.
  • Exposure and fundamental understanding of project work processes such as FEL and Stage Gate concepts.
  • Experience with cost control and budget execution.
  • Understands and adheres to all policies, procedures, and guidelines pertaining to safety, health and environmental emphasizing this perspective in their own work and in the work of others.
  • Strives to continuously improve and apply personal knowledge and skills to effectively perform role.
  • Effectively exchange information, instructions, and ideas within own work group and with other cross-functional groups including frequent interactions with Research and Development, Capital, and Production groups.
  • Team player who works effectively within and across group(s) and understands each member's role and responsibilities.
  • High degree of initiative, determination, and creativity.
