Duties, Responsibilities & Other

The selected candidate will:

    Perform engineering assessments, life safety and code analysis, calculations, and fire protection system(s) design.
  • Design fire protection systems for commercial, institutional, industrial, and mission critical facilities.
  • Candidate will work to produce 3-D designs of sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, and means of egress analysis, working to support architects and engineers in building design.
  • Candidate will perform code analysis to ensure required features of fire protection and life safety are appropriately incorporated into designs.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines within KCI to ensure design satisfies project constraints.
  • Mentor and provide design direction for younger fire protection staff.
  • Attend client meetings to discuss fire protection designs.

Must have skills:

  • Familiarity with International Code Council (ICC) codes and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred experience:

  • Knowledge of egress modeling and sprinkler layout software.
  • General knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Specific past experience with sprinkler and fire alarm design.
  • Knowledge of sprinkler hydraulic calculation software.
  • Professional Engineer (PE)
  • B.S. in engineering from an ABET-accredited 4-yr university.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; Appropriate graduate level work is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 - 9 years of professional experience.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.
Performance Expectations
  • Submit for approval and deliver timely annual Employee Performance Appraisals for assigned staff
  • Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
  • Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
  • Manage work routine of all assigned staff and assign job activities as required
  • Complete other duties as required/assigned
  • Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target(75%-80% typical)
  • Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects/tasks
  • Chart and provide task performance results
  • Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
  • Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required
  • Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
  • Prepare interpractice agreements and/or outside requests as required
  • Provide technical project and staff oversight
  • Serve as task manager on select projects
  • Compare field data to base plan
  • Conduct site visits and gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes and photographs as needed
  • Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications and cost estimates for review and approval
  • Prepare preliminary concept designs and submit for approval
  • Read and interpret technical documents needed for performance of job
  • Review and approve shop drawings
  • Complete Annual Individual Training Program
