R&D SENIOR METALLURGIST (Alloy Development)

THE R&D SENIOR METALLURGIST (Alloy Development) WILL . . .

  • Play a role in developing new alloys. Scopes out project needs, design experiments using standard experimental design techniques and use advanced techniques for material characterization and data analysis. Perform research hands-on in a laboratory setting. Lead and support multiple concurrent projects.
  • Monitor on-going and future advances in metallurgy. Interact with customers and internal business units to provide unique material solutions. Support mill projects related to scale up and production of key alloys. Interacts with national laboratories, universities and industrial consortiums to jointly develop and evaluate new processes and materials. Proactively drive and secure intellectual property.
  • Perform all other duties and projects as assigned.

REQUIRED FOR THE R&D SENIOR METALLURGIST (Alloy Development)

  • Master's degree in Master's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Material Science or related field required. PhD preferred.
  • Masters degree and 2+ years of experience OR PhD and 0 - 2 years of experience.
  • Practical work experience or graduate research in specialty alloys, emphasizing nickel-based alloys.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office - including Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions. Goal driven and self-directed and deliver results on-schedule
  • Specialized knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods and practices as well as knowledge of metallurgical and production equipment.
  • Awareness of newest and latest technologies available.
  • Ability to apply statical methods in decision making and able to deliver results on schedule.
  • Willingness to provide support and guidance to peers, customers and manager in key projects and be a functional individual contributor as well as provide training and eduction to customer.
  • Demonstrates ability to recognize potential new products and partners. Ability to publish one (1) paper each year and bring one (1) new idea or external partner per year.
