Huntsman is seeking an Aerospace Application Engineer - Adhesive and Composite Specialist supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in HATC, Texas. This position will report to the Technical Services Director.

Job Scope

We are seeking a highly skilled Aerospace Application Engineer to join our Huntsman team, specializing in adhesive and composite qualifications for aerospace applications. As an essential member of our engineering department, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful implementation and qualification of adhesive bonding and composite materials in line with industry specifications. Your expertise will contribute to the development of cutting-edge aerospace products, enabling our organization to maintain its position as a leader in the field.

This position will sit at our Huntsman Advanced Technology Center (HATC) located in The Woodlands, TX.

As the Aerospace Application Engineer - Adhesive and Composite Specialist you will:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design engineers, materials engineers, and manufacturing personnel, to ensure the successful integration of adhesive bonding and composite materials into aerospace applications.
  • Conduct thorough analysis and testing of adhesive bonding and composite materials, ensuring compliance with industry standards and specifications.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation related to adhesive and composite qualifications, including test procedures, reports, and technical specifications.
  • Negotiate specification requirements with customers to match manufacturing plant capabilities.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to internal stakeholders, including product development teams, manufacturing personnel, and quality assurance departments.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in adhesive and composite qualifications, processes, and materials, and provide recommendations to enhance product performance and efficiency.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in aerospace adhesive bonding and composite materials through continuous learning and engagement with industry publications and conferences such as SAMPE, CAMX, JEC, and SAE.
  • Lead technical discussions and provide training sessions on adhesive and composite qualifications to enhance the overall knowledge and capabilities of the team that includes customers, distributors, and field sales.

Required Qualifications:

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in adhesive bonding and composite materials in aerospace applications. Minimum 5 years' experience in aircraft materials and processes (adhesives and composites).
  • Proficiency in industry standards and specifications related to adhesive bonding and composite qualifications, such as Boeing, Airbus, ASTM, AMS, and MIL-STD.
  • Prior experience with test methods and equipment used for adhesive and composite qualifications, including mechanical testing, thermal analysis, and microscopy.
  • Excellent writing and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex technical issues and provide innovative solutions.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work efficiently with cross-functional teams and clearly convey technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and regulations related to adhesive bonding and composite materials in aerospace applications.
  • Ability to travel to Seattle, Los Angeles, and Duxford, UK to provide on-site support as needed (up to 25% travel).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master's degree is preferred.
