Job Title:

Long Distance (LD) Transport Engineer Locations Richardson, TX and Domestic US

MUST HAVE SKILLS (Most Important):

Experience in the telecommunications industry

Technical knowledge of long distance, ultra-long haul and OTN mesh networks

Equipment Knowledge specific to Sonet/SDH, ULH, OTN mesh and WDM transport

Vendor Specific Knowledge: Ciena, Infinera, Fujitsu and varied long haul networks

System Knowledge: BGW or Granite (XNG), CoFEE(Canvas), Nautilus, ICON, CCP, Venue

Job requirements specific to engineering and design of ultra-long haul transport

Experience managing complex processes and driving results

Experience with windows-based programs and corporate database systems

Desired skills:

Strong understanding of engineering specs and drawings

Knowledge and experience with both equipment inventory and design

Strong working knowledge of the legacy network operating systems

Ability to assess, identify, and mitigate risks that could impact the business or project

Enjoy analyzing problems with autonomy to select and implement right solutions

Work well independently; but also team player able to ensure best outcomes

Manage assignments & competing priorities, staying focused on important deadlines

Experience with windows-based programs and corporate database systems

Job Duties: The Transport Engineer will be responsible for management of MDE (Manufacture Discontinued Equipment) migrations, disconnects and decommissions in support of the Long Distance Zero Fill and Low Fill Device Power Down Initiative. The engineer will work to define, plan, and engineer disconnects of transport systems without traffic, drive offload grooms of transport systems with low traffic, and coordinate steps to power down and retire in place network elements of obsolete network equipment to optimize the network utilization and reduce the high failure rate of system outages.

Responsibilities

Engineer the removal of obsolete equipment from the network

Respond to high failure rate systems outages

Free up space and power in support of network growth

Clear housekeeping order-wire from MDE gear. (Prerequisite to initiating a decommission project and power down of equipment)

Identify directional system/solution for new order-wire/housekeeping.

Prioritize Zero Fill power downs to support Site Decommissions

Coordinate groom offloads from MDE transport onto TPTA/Sonet Mesh network for Low Fill device power downs

Maintain equipment inventory records and LD transport in engineering and provisioning database(s)

Job requirements and responsibilities are specific to engineering and design of ultra-long haul network transport equipment defined under the Zero-Fill program and not associated to any normal day to day activities.

Database cleanup to ensure integrity of the system and network

Work w/ peers to ensure on time performance and delivery to support needs of business and customer

Handle escalations and troubleshoot, as needed

Familiarity with field concepts, practices, and procedures

Stay current on technological evolutions.

Education/certifications:

Bachelor s degree in related technical field or relevant experience

Five or more years of telecom work experience

Logistics: Shift: Standard Day Shift 8a-5p. No weekend work required. No on-call work required. Business Unit
