The Switchboard Operator performs operations at the switchboard/reception area with the use of multi-line console telecommunication equipment; Greets and assists visitors by providing information and giving directions to locations on campus and notifying campus employees of visitors; Maintains a Visitors Center for family members and friends of campus individuals. Capable of handling a high volume of calls on a multi-line phone system by answering, placing and transferring campus, local and long distance calls. Communicates with campus personnel including emergency medical, transportation and security by radio and pager systems; Acts as command center for communicating and relaying emergency information as required. Monitors and responds to monitored alarms. Exhibits a thorough knowledge of campus emergency procedures and has the ability to respond effectively to crisis situations. Is familiar with various campus and departmental procedures and is able to interpret and perform them in a timely and accurate manner. Performs clerical and mail room duties as assigned
|Essential Job Functions:|
This position works a rotating schedule (evenings and nights), including Saturday, Sunday, and holidays. This position is available only to current employees of Austin State Supported Living Center. Shifts are 11pm-7am, 7am-3pm, and 3pm-11pm.
Must be capable of handling a high volume of calls on a multi line phone system by answering, placing and transferring campus, local and long distance calls. Communicates with campus personnel including, campus administrators, shift coordinators, campus nurse, medical staff, campus OD's, security/monitors, EDO's, AOD, and personnel on-call by two -way radio and/or pager systems. Acts as command center for communicating and relaying emergency information as required. Monitors and responds to Fire Alarm panel and other monitored alarms.
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location
|Knowledge Skills Abilities:|

Handles both incoming and outgoing calls on a high-volume multiline switchboard in a timely manner. Performs clerical duties as assigned. Ability to work flexible schedule ( Monday - Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Holidays) May work any shift (6-2, 2-10,8-5 or 10-6) and any day of the week depending on needs of the facility.

|Initial Selection Criteria:|
Experience in operating a telephone console/switchboard and as a receptionist. Ability to work a flexible schedule (days may include Saturday, Sunday, and holidays; hours may include 6am - 2pm, 2 pm- 10 pm, 8am-5pm,10pm-6am). Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours.
