The Denton State Supported Living Center(SSLC), part of the Health and Specialty Care System, is seeking a Registered Nurse - Nurse Manager to join an interdisciplinary team of professionals to provide clinical care to individuals of the SSLC. As a State Supported Living Nurse, you will work at the SSLC campus with a dynamic group of staff and professionals who are dedicated to providing supports and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The RN - Nurse Manager performs duties within the scope of practice attributed to the skills of a registered nurse in the assigned area and reports to the Nursing Operation Officer. The work involves planning, developing, coordinating, and evaluating activities related to nursing function of the assigned area. Coordination of care and treatment of individuals that may require 24 hour nursing care and/or individuals with psychiatric/behavioral needs in accordance with accepted ICF-IID (Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities) rules and Texas Board of Nurse's (BON) rules. Responsible for the overall nursing functions including the medication administration process. The Nurse Manager is responsible for hiring, time and leave activities, completing performance evaluations of staff, Performance and Conduct Management, and policy development/revisions. The RN - Nurse Manager will keep informed of and follows all facility policies and procedures. This position may be involved in quality assurance reviews and/or participate in an "on-call" rotation. Provide treatment to HHS employees injured in course and scope of employment.
Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
Plans, directs, and supervises overall nursing care of assigned area.
Sets goals and long range plans for assigned unit.
Observes and ensures safe professional nursing practices are maintained.
Provides training/education to staff as needed.
Interviews and hires nursing staff according to established hiring practices.
Maintains personnel records for assigned nursing staff.
Maintains open lines of communication with primary care providers and consults with them about medical care, policies, and procedures.
Makes daily weekday rounds on assigned homes and provides support and supervision to direct care nurses on a regular basis.
Updates the Nursing Operations Officer and Chief Nurse Executive on an on-going basis about pertinent information concerning unit operations and individual's status.
Attends meetings as assigned and visits assigned homes on all shifts on a regular basis.
Visits homes periodically on weekends and holidays on varying shifts.
Provide treatment to HHS employees injured in course and scope of employment.
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Must demonstrate considerable knowledge of nursing procedures and techniques; of health care laws and regulations; local, state and federal rules; and of accepted health care standards.
Demonstrate the ability to appropriately interact with individuals with developmental disabilities, family and staff members.
Must demonstrate the ability to coordinate on-going health care during routine daily activities or during special activities.
Ability to maintain accurate records and complete reports and nursing staff evaluations, tracking performance, and taking disciplinary actions as required by the Health and Human Services HR policies/guidelines.
Demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures and emergency equipment, i.e., CPR. And ability to assess and care for residents and/or staff members in emergency situations.
Knowledge of teaching skills, leadership methods, and interviewing principles and techniques.
Experience required in completion of schedules for nurse staffing and ratios including scheduling of nursing staff for required training/education and workshops.
Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely in both written and oral communications.
Experience in the development and presentation of information.
Must maintain current CPR certification. Must have strength and flexibility to safely perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of emergency procedures and emergency equipment.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas (or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact)
Initial Selection Criteria:
Licensed by Texas Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
Three (3) years of experience as documentation of Nursing Supervisory/Administrative experience preferred.
Bachelor's Degree preferred, experience may be substituted for education.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position.
