Psychiatrist III under the general direction and supervision of the Medical Director the psychiatrist on an Unit provides direct patient care, actively participates in Case Formulation, Multi-Disciplinary Case Conferences, Treatment Plan Reviews, Medication Reviews, 90-Day Medication Reviews, AIMS examination, review of medication consents, and annual psychiatric evaluations when indicated. Oversees the clinical care provided for patients assigned. Advises the Medical Director regarding patient care and other issues of the assigned unit that impact clinical and patient care. Directs the Treatment Team and treatment services to provide the required level of care. Will serve as member of assigned committees of the Medical Staff. Will participate in continuing education to provide knowledge and maintain licensure. This position is a 40-Hour Work Week.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
2. Accomplishes psychiatric assessments/evaluations, admission notes, progress notes, discharges meeting document requirements in CWS.
3. Actively participates in and supports Performance Improvement activities.
4. Demonstrates age specific competency.
5. Diagnoses using correct nomenclature. Prescribes psychoactive medications rationally following Administrative Codes.
6. Participates in Medical Staff meetings, activities, and committees.
7. Leads the interdisciplinary team to develop individualized treatment plans that achieve patient's improvement. Makes admission/discharge decisions.
8. Participates in continuing education to improve knowledge/maintain licensure. Obtains required CME credit and CT&D training documentation.
9. Treats and/or refers medical problems of patients for consultation and assistance when indicated. Follows up on consultation, recommendations and laboratory results.
10. Supervise care given by his treatment team through rounds, reviews. Provides quality direct patient care. Notifies Medical Director of difficult clinical situations and needs.
11. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
1. Knowledge of psychiatric principles and methods; of general medicine methods and procedures; and of the principles and practices in the development, implementation, and documentation of individualized care and treatment plans.
2. Skill in the care and treatment of patients, in the use of medical and psychiatric diagnostic and treatment tools and equipment, in conducting psychiatric research, and in the use of a computer and applicable software.
3. Ability to direct psychiatric activities; to examine, diagnose, and treat mental disorders; to interpret psychological diagnoses and analyses; to communicate effectively; and to supervise the work of others.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
1. Must be licensed as a medical doctor by the State of Texas.
2. Successful completion of a residency program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Foundation or equivalent body.
Initial Selection Criteria:
1. Must be licensed by the State of Texas Medical Board.
2. Must possess an active Federal Controlled Substance Registration.
Additional Information:
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/Entities. Males between the ages of 18 - 25 must be registered with the Selective Service. Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for employment at a state-operated facility.

All of these diseases are vaccine-preventable. As a result, state hospital policy requires employees be vaccinated according to their level of contact with patients. In the event you choose to not be immunized for the influenza virus, you may be required to wear a mask and take other protective measures.

Salary Note: The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the posted minimum of the salary range.
