Principal Offshore Lead Mechanical Engineer (1911535)

Job Overview:

The Principal Offshore Lead Mechanical Engineer Serves as the focal point for all Mechanical Engineering Activities and interfaces/coordinates with other Discipline Engineering Teams & Client Representatives for Specific Assigned Project(s) and will be based in the McDermott Houston Office.


Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Performs as the Lead Offshore Mechanical Engineer for Assigned Project(s).
  • Capable of the Application, Selection, Design Layout and Engineering of Rotating & Packaged Equipment found on Offshore Compression Platforms
  • Has Experience with, and can Undertake, Pre-FEED and FEED Studies for Offshore Platforms per Project Requirements
  • Provide Technical Clarifications to any comments raised by other Departments, Clients, Classification Societies, etc. throughout the Project Engineering phase
  • Coordinate Equipment Bid Reviews with other involved Engineering Disciplines
  • Liaise with Suppliers for any pending Technical issues to be solved during Project Execution to ensure that Equipment Packages are Technically Compliant with Project Specifications, Engineering Expectations and in Coordination with the Client(s)
  • Provide Technical Expertise for Packages & Equipment Upgrades, Repairs, inspection and Testing as required by Project needs
  • Monitor Mechanical Engineering Discipline Performance, Develop Discipline Improvement Plans when necessary
  • Carry out Specific Project Tasks and responsibilities as required
  • Highlight and Quantify Risk associated with Critical Interfaces, Equipment, Supplier Data Flow and Project Schedule and develop any mitigation plans accordingly
  • Periodically travel to McDermott High Value Engineering Centers, Fabrication Yards, Equipment Suppliers and Client Facilities to facilitate Deliverables Production, Critical Data Flow, Schedule Adherence and Coordination Activities

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or ABET Approved Curriculum
  • Minimum 15 years of experience, predominantly Engineering experience, with detailed knowledge of codes/standards, applicable software's
  • Must be Proficient in Compress and Microsoft Office software programs
  • Strong Pre-FEED, FEED & EPC Experience
  • Good familiarity and/or competence in Packaged, Rotating Equipment and Static Equipment
  • Experienced in Lead Engineer Role with Direct Client interfacing on Large Projects managing a minimum of 5 Mechanical Engineers
  • Must be fully proficient in speaking and writing in English * Proficiency in speaking and writing in Spanish (Bilingual) is a Plus
