Job Description

Position Summary

Leads Yoga and/or related wellness classes using proper exercise techniques and motivation.

Essential Functions

  • Promotes and incorporates the YMCA five core values of honesty, responsibility, respect, caring and faith in to all program activities.
  • Plans and instructs Yoga and/or related classes following YMCA standards and guidelines.
  • Observes and discusses individual progress with participants. Develops rapport with members and responds to questions related to fitness.
  • Offers alternatives during class to accommodate different fitness levels.
  • Monitors participants to ensure safe workout; responds to and reports, accidents and incidents.
  • Prepares room and equipment prior to class and properly secures room and equipment following the class; reports equipment and/or facility problems to supervisor promptly
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures. Reports all incidents and complete accident reports as necessary.
  • Responds to member questions and/or concerns.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
  • Meets timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Example includes but are not limited to Kronos Workforce Ready for review and approval of time sheets.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Minimum age is 21 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience or related experience.
  • Required certifications: 200 hour RYT and/or specialty certifications, ASHI CPR, First Aid, AED.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and or/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to resolve routine problems.
