We're looking for an Architect to join Procore's Data Mesh division. In this role, you'll help architect Procore's next-generation construction data platform for others to build upon, including Procore developers, analysts, partners, and customers.

As an Architect, you will be primarily responsible for establishing the strategic technical direction, and creating reference patterns, and will be responsible for actively driving the effective execution of our data platform strategy adhering to data mesh principles. This is a great opportunity to use your leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills to build highly effective data systems and practices, foster collaborative relationships, and measure value delivered to our customers. This position will report to the Director, Data Mesh, and will be based out of our Austin, TX office. We're looking for someone to join us immediately.

What you'll do:

  • Design and Implement Data Mesh: Architect the design and implementation of our next-generation data platform and reference patterns following data mesh principles, primarily focused on provisioning, support, and governance of large-scale databases, data lakes, as well as streaming and batch processing infrastructure and pipelines
  • Deploy Patterns of Event-Driven Architectures: Facilitate the development of our platform into a set of robust, decoupled event-driven systems that reduce coordination costs between teams while enabling self-service delivery of software and infrastructure quickly and confidently.
  • Cross-Cloud Management and Operations: Establish strategies for empowering developers to self-manage their data infrastructure and pipelines across multiple cloud platforms, ensuring optimal performance, cost-efficiency, and compliance with security and regulatory policies
  • Build Scalable and Resilient Systems: Design systems that are highly scalable and resilient to failures, ensuring high availability and disaster recovery capabilities across cloud providers. This includes implementing auto-scaling, failover strategies, and redundancy plans.
  • Compliance and Secure by Design: Collaborate with security teams to embed security controls and compliance checks into the platform, ensuring all deployments adhere to industry and regulatory standards
  • Drive Innovation and Research: Stay abreast of the latest data technologies and trends and lead the exploration & adoption of cutting-edge tools and practices to enhance the agility and efficiency of our data platform
  • Collaborate with Development Teams: Serve as an evangelist for our platform team, working with feature teams to understand application requirements, drive adoption, and ensure our platform supports their needs
  • Educate and Mentor Team Members: Work closely with the engineering teams, educating and mentoring team members on cloud-agnostic practices, data mesh, event-driven design, and best practices in data security, governance, and cost management

What we're looking for:

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or related discipline; or comparable work experience. Technical Certifications are a plus.
  • 15+ years of experience operating databases, data lakes, and streaming and batch processing infrastructure & pipelines at scale
  • Customer-facing architecture, and engineering, with proven experience with deploying operational control and data planes at enterprise-grade SaaS companies serving millions of users per day.
  • Proven track record in implementing data mesh with a strong bias toward streamlining developer experiences at an organizational scale
  • Proven track record of thought leadership & collaboration across multiple teams in a large organization to deliver results.
  • Experience driving security, compliance, and disaster recovery in all aspects of a data platform
  • Deep Experience with the following:
    • Public cloud-native offerings (AWS, GCP, Azure)
    • Kubernetes & Container-based hosting strategies
    • SQL and NoSQL databases (Postgres, Cassandra, MongoDB, Neo4j, DynamoDB, etc.)
    • Streaming & Batch Data Processing (Kafka, Flink, Spark)
    • Cloud automation & IaC tooling (e.g. Terraform, Ansible, Puppet)
    • Continuous Integration Tooling (e.g. CircleCI, Jenkins, Github Actions, etc.)
    • Continuous Deployment Tooling (e.g. ArgoCD, Argo Workflows, Spinnaker)
    • Data Discovery and Governance Tooling (e.g. OpenMetadata, Alation, etc.)
    • 12-factor application development
    • Observability including Continual Compliance Logging
QualificationsAdditional Information

Base Pay Range $214,960 - $295,570. Eligible for Bonus Incentive Compensation. Procore is committed to offering competitive, fair, and commensurate compensation, and has provided an estimated pay range for this role. Actual compensation will be based on a candidate's job-related skills, experience, education or training, and location.
