What You'll Do
  • Performs general carpentry work involving, but not limited to, the erecting of wooden building frames, installing exterior and interior trim, laying floors, building concrete forms, pouring chutes, constructing wooden scaffolds, and similar work entailing the cutting, shaping, and fastening together of wood or material such as treated fiberboard that is substituted for wood
  • Fits and assembles prefabricated wooden sections; cuts, shapes, fits, and assembles wood sections according to directions given on blueprints and sketches; performs general carpentry duties such as sawing, planning, jointing, chiseling, gluing, fitting, and nailing
  • Installs, reworks and maintains all locks and locking mechanisms on buildings, classified repositories, desks, and files
  • Cuts, shapes, and installs metal studs and ceiling joists using tin snips, pop riveters, and stud guns
  • Cuts, shapes, and assembles Plexiglas assemblies by gluing and/or fastening together by screws
  • Assembles and sets metal and wood doors and door jambs
  • Must be proficient in reading prints and sketches
  • Maintains and installs acoustic ceilings, and grid panels
  • Ensures accurate and efficient replacement of parts, and makes repairs and/or adjustments to equipment, installations, and/or fixtures
  • Performs duties under the direction of line management
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate records
  • Must adhere to Safety, Fire, and Security regulations
  • Must be able to work alone or with others as the job requires
  • Responsible for the safe operation and proper care of materials, tools and equipment
  • Responsible for maintaining a knowledge of applicable Federal, State, DOE, Corporate and Plant rules, regulations, Labor Agreements and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Required to attend and/or successfully complete training classes as determined by the Training and Development Technologies Department, through General Employee Training (Reference DOE Order 426.2), and Management
  • Participates in worker involvement including input to work planning and methods to identify hazards and controls
  • Understands a worker's right to stop work when they feel their own or other's personal safety is jeopardized
  • Attends all required safety meetings and training
  • Offers suggestions on improvements to the work environment

Minimum Job Requirements
  • High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • Must be able to perform all duties and functions outlined above
  • Must meet initial employment requirements
  • Must be able to read, write, and comprehend applicable written and/or oral instructions
  • Must be physically fit to perform the above job functions as determined by Medical Evaluation
  • Must have successfully completed a four (4) year CNS Pantex approved Apprenticeship which provides experience directly related to the work currently performed by the Carpenter Shop, or have four (4) years' experience satisfactory to the Carpenter Shop Supervisor and/or the Maintenance Department Manager in the performance of current Carpenter Shop work as stated in the functions and responsibilities of this job description
  • Must have a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator's License
  • All qualifications, work history, training, and education are to be verified by direct contact with former employers and/or documented proof. Ability to perform the functions and responsibilities involved will be determined by a comprehensive interview and background evaluation.
  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., 1 year maintenance-related experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. Some job titles consist exclusively of DOE O 426.2 positions. Other job titles contain a mixture of DOE O 426.2 positions and non-DOE O 426.2 positions. A review of the tasks of each role within an identified job title is performed to verify proper classification of the work, not just the individual or title. (Ref. WI02.04.01.06.10)

This position requires Human Reliability Program (HRP) certification. If the successful candidate is not currently certified in the HRP, the certification process will be initiated upon assumption of the position. If the successful candidate is currently certified in the HRP, a review for HRP certification in the appropriate category will be performed by the hiring manager and the HRP Management Official, and the certification process in the appropriate category will be initiated upon assumption of the position.
