Position Description

Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Maintains vehicle, tools, equipment and materials in an orderly and safe condition. Operates vehicles including pickups, trucks and vans. Secures vehicle, equipment and areas of operation.
  • Trains personnel in the apprenticeship training program and temporary laborers on job-related maintenance tasks.
  • Completes other tasks as assigned by shop foreperson.
  • Performs painting tasks to include: preparation of various types of surfaces by scraping, sanding and cleaning, and applying paint, varnish, lacquer, shellac or other finishes.
  • Mixes and matches paint, varnish, lacquer, shellac or other finishes. Refinishes and restores interior and exterior painted surfaces including modifications or alterations to buildings. Refinishes furniture, cabinets, shelves, table tops and other furnishings.
  • Supports the Continuous Improvement philosophy of the Operations Division and complies with the OD Safety Program to include all safety and health rules, regulations and operating policies and procedures. Complies with all attendance policies and guidelines.
  • Maintains professional personal appearance.
  • Attends scheduled meetings and training as required to maintain technical skills and qualifications.
  • Maintains records of materials and labor expended for each project or job assignment. Assesses job or project material requirements and prepares requisition for materials from supply warehouse or vendor.
  • Advises shop foreperson on job or project status and operational problems.

Required Qualifications

Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable to operate motor vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge & ability to perform skills of the painting field.
  • Three years experience as a journeyperson level painter.

Minimum Hire Rate

Compensation will be based on the knowledge, skills, abilities, and defined years of experience to align with the appropriate career levels for the Tradesperson specialty in the Operations Division Facilities Maintenance Career Plan.

Pay Statement
