Job Summary:

The Financial Accountant III is responsible for supporting a variety of accounting functions, including but not limited to program level accounting for a portfolio of programs, balance sheet reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and performing other more complex, routine and non-routine accounting tasks and projects, while providing exceptional customer service to our internal and external customers.

Essential Functions:
    Prepare program level financial statements and distribute reports according to schedule
  • Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts monthly and recommend adjusting entries as needed
  • Reconcile assigned bank account reconciliations monthly
  • Prepare and post adjusting journal entries as required
  • Perform more complex routine and non-routine accounting tasks and projects
  • Routinely communicate with funding sources to communicate results, provide information and resolve issues
  • Recommend financial actions by analyzing accounting options
  • Summarize current financial status by collecting information; preparing profit and loss statement and other reports, as needed
  • Substantiate financial transactions by reviewing and auditing documents, including, but not limited to, Ariett AP transactions
  • Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information
  • Verify, allocate, post and reconcile transactions
  • Produce accurate accounting reports and present their results
  • Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
  • Participate in budget process
  • Support month-end and year-end close process and the audit process
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Contribute to a strong internal customer relationship through positive interactions with customer personnel
  • Communicate with direct supervisor on work status and customer issues that arise
  • Perform other accounting related duties as assigned, which may include, but is not limited to: NSLP review, performing/observing inventories, special projects and proposals
  • General knowledge of 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance)
  • Comply with company policies and accounting policies and procedures
  • Serve as project lead on projects as assigned
  • Review reconciliations of other accounting staff members as assigned
  • Participate in the process of setting accounting policies and procedures
Other Functions:

Skills and Abilities

  • May travel to various program locations to assist in NSLP monitoring and inventory observation as
  • Compile reports from various database systems (e.g., Jet Reports, Smart View).
  • Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • A Bachelor degree from an accredited university in accounting, finance, business management, economics or related discipline. Curricula should include at least two semesters of accounting.
  • Experience: A Bachelor degree and over five years of relevant job experience as an accountant, or a Master's degree and over three years of relevant job experience as an accountant
  • Strong math skills; ability to analyze figures
  • Good knowledge of accounting principles (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office software, with an emphasis on Excel
  • Must be organized, thorough, reliable and consistent
  • Ability to work independently with very limited supervision, as well as part of a team and meet deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize work appropriately to meet deadlines
  • Ability to display patience and helpfulness, while handling sensitive and confidential information and

Preferred

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • A Master's degree from an accredited university in accounting, finance, business management, business administration, economics or related discipline.
Physical Demands:

Must be able to read, write, and communicate both verbally and in written form to express and exchange ideas. While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee must be able to access all components of work station and other office equipment. Frequent typing, writing, bending and twisting. Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.
