Job Title: Senior HSE Advisor

Location: Field

Brief Description:

The Senior HSE Advisor will be responsible for the occupational HSE-related activities for the Company's designated operational areas. This position also requires ensuring HSE risks are managed according to Company policies, standards and processes, industry best practices and standards, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. The Senior HSE Advisor is responsible to supervise and lead a team of HSE Advisors, while supporting Operations and other functional groups.

Detailed Description:

  • Oversee and coordinate the day-to-day activities and duties performed by HSE Advisors
  • Lead, manage, and develop HSE Advisors to achieve individual performance goals and ensure overall performance aligns with Company standards
  • Coordinate with HSE Manager and HSE team to ensure a consistent and effective approach to HSE responsibilities while adhering to best practices
  • Promote a risk-based approach (e.g., field-based hazard identification and risk assessments) to HSE management utilizing Company policies, standards, and processes for all operational activities
  • Plan and participate in HSE audits/assessments of drilling operations and related assigned areas to ensure implementation of and compliance with HSE requirements
  • Actively support the implementation of all Company related safety initiatives in area(s) of responsibility
  • Identify and lead area specific initiatives that proactively promote the Company's commitment to employee engagement in HSE activities
  • Provide HSE support, coaching and training, as well as promoting Company's commitment to an incident free safety culture
  • Support the implementation and achievement of HSE objectives and performance measures
  • Ensure compliance with all HSE related training to include internal and external training as needed for designated area(s) of responsibility
  • Attend operational meetings and provide HSE metrics as requested (e.g., handovers, training classes, customers)
  • Review incident management system (e.g., incident reports, investigation findings, actions items, metrics) to ensure compliance with Company policies
  • Actively participate in risk management activities including work planning, hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk controls identification and implementation
  • Conduct safety and environmental assessments and inspection of records, equipment and facilities to promote compliance with safety regulations and recordkeeping requirements as established by the Company and/or local, state or federal laws
  • Provide expertise in incident investigation and reviews to assist in identifying causal factors and root causes along with identification of the corrective actions and preventive actions necessary to prevent recurrence
  • Proactively identify incident trends and recommend improvement goals and strategies based on analysis of relevant statistics
  • Supervise the facilitation of case management, including conducting interviews and performing frequent follow-ups to ensure ongoing support and compliance with third party medical recommendations to minimize recordable incident exposure

Job Requirements:

  • Competent in emergency response support of coworkers as needed, ensure compliance with safety procedures, and other additional tasks as assigned
  • Proficient in understanding and communicating regulations, risk management, and risk assessment skills
  • Technical proficiency in HSE auditing, incident investigation and documentation techniques, such as case management and required recordkeeping
  • Proficient written communication within various computer applications and programs, including MS Office
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including while speaking in front of large groups
  • Possess strong technical knowledge of OSHA, EPA regulations and consensus standards, API, ANSI, ASME and others as they apply to the oil and gas industry
  • Working at heights, including but not limited to climbing a straight ladder or stairs approximately 142 feet from the rig floor to perform inspections, investigations, and/or training with required PPE while maintaining 100% tied off
  • Spatial orientation and awareness to safely move around the work environment with many moving objects
  • Working in a heavy industrial environment including around constantly moving loud machinery (with proper PPE)
  • Requires work in remote locations far from emergency services
  • Mandatory adherence to the Company's Drug and Alcohol Policy, including performing on site employee collections and Fit for Duty evaluations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Five years of experience in a field based HSE role OR two years related rig-based experience and two years of experience in a field based HSE role
  • Strong understanding of drilling processes, equipment, and systems
  • Valid state-issued driver's license and ability to meet requirements of Company's Vehicle Use Agreement and Driving Policy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four-year college degree
  • Supervisory experience of four or more personnel
  • Three or more years of Patterson-UTI experience
  • Five years' experience within the drilling industry
  • Two years of environmental management experience
  • OHST, CSHO, or other recognized certification in HSE-related subject

Additional Details:

This position requires the person to work in both office locations and outdoors in all types of weather conditions, including precipitation, cold/heat, high wind, and turbulent conditions. The Senior HSE Advisor will be regularly exposed to the typical conditions of the local area where the drilling operations and rigs are located. This position involves occasional manual labor functions and duties.

The Senior HSE Advisor must work with an emphasis on safety for themselves and others including coworkers and third parties. They must be able to work closely with others and under time-sensitive deadlines including potential emergency response situations. They must be willing to work extended schedules that will include working days; and occasionally nights, weekends and holidays.
