Position Description
Registered Nurse - Cardiothoracic Transplant Coordinator- Pre & Post Transplant.
Our client is a distinguished teaching hospital located near downtown Dallas and is continually recognized by US News and World Report as one of the top fifty hospitals in the nation. The medical center is comprised of six hospital buildings offering multiple clinical specialties including trauma services (Level I Trauma Center), heart, lung, kidney and liver transplantation, left-ventricular assist (LVAD) implantation, Level III NICU, and blood and bone marrow transplantation.
The Coordinator of Transplant coordinates evaluation, admission, discharge, and post-transplant care of assigned patients. Instructs direct care personnel in principles and techniques of transplantation. Educates and counsels patients and families.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in evaluation of candidates' suitability for Transplant procedures by interviewing patients and families to obtain medical and personal histories, by reviewing diagnostic test results to verify accuracy and completeness and by reviewing information with Physicians.
- Coordinate medical procedures by scheduling:
Inpatient admissions.
Laboratory tests.
Imaging examinations.
Pre-operative and post-operative clinic visits.
Patient transports.
Other services required by patients and families.
- Coordinate and monitor post-operative care plan and its results and take corrective action as required.
- Educate patients and families regarding Transplant procedures including testing, pre-operative and post-operative care, and physical/psychological effects of procedures.
* Remain knowledgeable of new procedures and practices in transplantation.
* Provide instruction to patient care personnel in principles and techniques of transplantation.
* Compile, calculate, and analyze variety of medical, statistical, and operational data and prepare reports for medical research projects and in order to report data required by regulatory agencies.
* Provide Physicians with assessments of patient condition.
* Review treatment forms to verify data required to maximize reimbursement has been entered. Route relevant information from patient to appropriate departments.

REQUIREMENTS:
MUST HAVE 4 YEARS CV-ICU EXPERIENCE (working with Heart and Lung Transplant patients)
or Experience as a Heart/Lung Transplant Coordinator
Associate/Bachelor of Science in Nursing REQUIRED
Excellent Organization Skills REQUIRED
