As an Animal or Maintenance Technician you will assist with daily primate husbandry in accordance with SOP’s and assist with maintenance of work areas. You will also be responsible for monitoring animal health and welfare in compliance with the Animal Welfare Act and you will help to maintain facilities for AAALAC compliance:
Feed primates either in outdoor enclosures or hospital rooms
Conduct general husbandry procedures
Remove and replace hospital caging
Perform outside maintenance of grounds
Clean and disinfect cages
Assist with administration of medications
Showering into barrier and changing into scrubs
Work may require PPE (personal protective equipment)
The minimum education, experience and qualifications for the Animal or Maintenance Technician position include:
High school diploma or equivalent is required
Ability to accurately read, record, and communicate information
Ability to lift 50+ lbs of animal feed on a regular basis
Must be able to carry, pull and lift animal cages weighing 48-70 lbs over head
Mandatory TB Testing
Overtime and weekend work as required
May be required to work in inclement weather
Must demonstrate a commitment to quality care of laboratory animals
Experience in pet stores, animal labs, farms, kennels, breeders, veterinary clinics, or other environments where exposure to animals was a part of the daily responsibilities is a PLUS.
