Thomson Reuters has one of the largest property tax services organizations in the nation. We have a need for a Manager, Property Tax Services in our Houston, TX office. In this exciting position you will help your clients reduce their property tax burden, whether it entails multi-million square foot distribution facilities in multiple states, a single apartment building, or an entire nuclear power plant. The Manager, Property Tax Services is responsible for supervising staff and overall engagement responsibility for his/her clients. They will provide tax services within specific field of expertise. The Manager will also show proven financial management skills, human resource skills, business development skills, research skills, client service skills, and technical skills.
Additionally, they are responsible, but not limited to the following:
  • Demonstrates thorough understanding and working knowledge of the client's business and tax issues. Builds professional relationships with the client's management and effectively assesses their needs and expectations.
  • Leads and manages multiple projects or teams. Supervises and provides guidance to seniors and lower level staff. Considered technically competent in their service offering and a go to person for answers. Serves as a mentor for lower level staff. Delegates appropriate work to staff and leverages projects to India operation.
  • Maintains and fosters client relationships, as well as identifies and assists with property tax services marketing opportunities. Responsible for a minimum of $500,000 of annual sales for new/retained business.
  • Possesses and applies property tax technical expertise and advanced knowledge in specific industries. Demonstrates property tax research skills. Conducts appeal hearings and/or audit representation. Handles more complicated valuations. Has strong knowledge of property tax software and applicable property tax code.
  • Demonstrates leadership in practice activities beyond client service (e.g. recruiting, interviewing of candidates, training, community involvement, etc.). Assist in development and retention of staff. Performs review of staff's compliance with organization's policies and procedures and takes corrective action when deficiencies discovered. Participates in training of India personnel, preferably with a visit or rotation to Hyderabad.
  • Manages billed receivables under his/her name at 60 days or less. Meets or exceeds annual charge hour and/or process metrics. Demonstrates a complete knowledge of the economics of Thomson Tax & Accounting and the profitability of engagements.
  • Actively participates in a local professional/ industry organizations and becomes a volunteer for committees and/or events.


Qualifications

  • Five plus years experience in progressively responsible personal property tax positions.
  • Bachelor's degree required. Real Estate, Accounting, or Finance preferred. MBA or JD a strong plus.
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Strong Project Management experience
  • Strong knowledge of real and personal property tax laws of various state, local, and municipal jurisdictions are required.
  • Prior personal property valuation and / or experience with a local Assessors Office is an added plus
  • Appropriate property tax designation is not required, but would be preferred.
