San Antonio based commercial real estate investment and development firm with plans for significant growth

Role with the Company:
Experienced Controller will oversee all accounting related functions at the firm. The ideal candidate will possess an in-depth understanding of fund and asset level accrual basis real estate accounting, a proven track record of managing the financials of a large real estate portfolio, and exceptional communication skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor, maintain, and ensure accuracy of ownership/partnership books, records, accounts, and working capital balances
  • Complete monthly financial reporting for ownership/partnership entities - 20+ entities
  • Ensure compliance with lender obligations, including the timely delivery of debt service payments and all lender reporting requirement (monthly, quarterly, annually)
  • Prepare annual budgets for assets and oversee tenant NNN reconciliations
  • Oversee all HR functions and third-party payroll processing
  • Manage accounting team members - currently 1 Senior Accountant
  • Validate property recording of ownership expenses in financial statement and ensure accurate forecasting of ownership expense in cash flow projections throughout the year
  • Cash management
    • Regularly review monthly property-level cash flow projections for accuracy
    • Produce and maintain quarterly cash reserve forecasts in collaboration with the asset management team
    • Monitor and help assess total asset cash positions for capital event planning
  • Lead and manage third-party accounting firms to complete annual fund audits, and K-1 preparation
  • Monitor real estate assessments; ensure tax bills are timely paid and properly recorded
  • Facilitate wire/ACH transfers to lenders and investors
  • As may be required, support the development ream on historic tax credit preparations and submittals, monitor submittals for state, federal, or municipal incentives
  • As may be required, support the development team with project budget reporting, construction draws, and closeouts

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required; Master's degree and CPA designation preferred
  • 15+ years of accounting experience with 10+ at Controller level and multi-entity experience
  • 10+ years in commercial real estate industry on ownership/partnership side with a focus on accounting or finance huge plus
  • Experience and knowledge of retail real estate accounting practices, processes and protocols appreciated
  • Experience scaling up in a growing company
  • Startup mindset - hands-on with ability to dig in and figure it out
  • Experience overseeing HR and payroll a plus
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize a multitude of projects
  • Thrive in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, AppFolio & QuickBooks experience a plus
  • Ability to work flexible or extended hours to accommodate increased workload or projects

The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
