Essential Functions

Job Summary

The Graphic Designer will be expected to produce high-level designs that elevate the brand's profile, as well as that of its student-athletes, coaches, and staff. Responsible for utilizing creative talents to support the marketing, branding, communications, social media, and promotional efforts across the UTSA Athletics Department, ensuring consistency in the brand for UTSA Athletics and University Marketing and Communications.

Core Responsibilities
  1. Elevates the UTSA Athletics Brand Profile through visual designs and concepts to include social media graphics, motion graphics, printed collateral, signage, large-scale facility graphics, website and email graphics, digital and traditional advertising, and logos.
  2. Maintains working knowledge of social media trends and contributes heavily to ideation, strategic planning, and social media content for all UTSA Athletics digital media accounts.
  3. Collaborates on and contributes to the creative development process, regularly partnering within the creative services area, in addition to all other external areas within UTSA Athletics.
  4. Expedite, organize, and track a large and varying workflow involving multiple deadlines, as well as archive and organize files, and fulfill quick-turn requests.
  5. Assist in the creative direction of photo shoots, both with current teams and with prospective student-athletes on official visits. May also be used to capture some photography.
  6. Train and develop student assistants and volunteers in the area of graphic design.
  7. Ensures quality control, including proofing, reviewing, and evaluating creative output.
  8. Fulfills production requests for in-house video board content.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant AD for Creative Services.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Advertising, Marketing, Communications, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a graphic designer in an intercollegiate or professional sports environment.
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Experience in creating visual content for a variety of digital media platforms and campaigns.
  • Ability to take direction from written or spoken ideas and convert them seamlessly into creative images, layouts, and other designs.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to work on multiple projects at a time.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Strong written, editing, and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Graphics, Design, Advertising, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience as a graphic designer in an intercollegiate athletics department.
  • Experience training and leading student staff.

Working Conditions
  • A combination of usual office conditions and sports venue environments.
  • Nights, weekends, extended hours, and occasional travel to sporting events will be expected.

Physical Demands:
  • Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.
  • Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.

This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
