The Texas Tech University School of Theatre & Dance within the J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts is accepting applications for an Instructor of Dance position.

About the Department/School/Area

We in the School of Theatre and Dance recognize the continuous, intentional, and ever-evolving work of addressing historical and systemic injustice. Major/Essential Functions


The Texas Tech University School of Theatre & Dance within the J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts is accepting applications for an Instructor of Dance position. This position is for a nationally or internationally prominent educator of dance, with a commitment to helping to guide the theatre, dance, music, and art programs to national distinction and nurturing the next generation of dance educators/scholars enrolled in our dance program. The successful candidate will begin service in this part-time position at the beginning of the 2024 fall semester.

  • Teach online dance theory courses related to their expertise
  • Embrace new forms of critically engaged disciplinary practice/scholarship in the evolving fields of dance and anatomy/somatics in relation to issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice, and participate in community engagement

Faculty Qualifications

Graduate degree (Master of Arts, Master of Fine Arts, or PhD) in Dance or related field, or a combination of the two.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in the professional dance industry
  • At least one year of prior postsecondary teaching experience
  • Prior experience mentoring students and/or interns
