Job Description

Primary Purpose

In this role, this person will cover a portfolio of North American (US and Mexico) business units and actively communicate with the various commercial functions and the Credit Risk Team to fully understand the risk nature of the transactions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess prospective counterparties'/vendors' business/financial risk profile using publicly available data from credit ratings agencies and perform internal reviews of the company's financial reports. Summarize risk analysis in credit memos and present credit recommendations to business unit leads.
  • Perform market and industry analysis to determine its impact on the credit portfolio and provide credit solutions to mitigate risk.
  • Actively involved in the negotiating of credit provisions in standard enabling agreements (e.g. NAESB, ISDA, EEI) and incoming and outgoing credit support documents (e.g. Letters of Credit and Guarantees) with commercial teams and internal/external lawyers.
  • Ensure information is entered timely and accurately in the Credit Management site for record keeping and tracking of credit support documents.
  • Ensure compliance with company credit policies and procedures, including monthly SOX compliance testing.
  • Prepare and manage internal credit support document process though execution and issuance.
  • Staying current on all aspects of the assigned credit portfolio, including industry trends, portfolio performance, compliance with covenants, potential risks, and opportunities
  • Provide support to Senior members of the Risk Team and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Collaborate to identify, develop, and implement process improvements and bring greater efficiency to the team.
  • Support system implementation and process enhancements with respect to preventative credit controls across commodities trading business.
  • Monitor and manage exposure to counterparties by producing daily and monthly reports and requesting additional credit support or issuing margin calls as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Business Administration, Mathematics and Accounting Business or related field of study.
  • 4+ years' experience contracts administration, credit risk or equivalent training and/or related experience.
  • Strong Excel and other Office product skills. Knowledge of SQL and/or VBA a plus
  • Strong analytical skills and detailed understanding of physical commodity marketing (power, natural gas) and financial derivatives
  • Ability to think proactively, multi-task, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet critical deadlines with a sense of urgency.
  • Experience with credit scoring and risk management systems, financial models, and metrics.
  • Strong verbal and written skills necessary
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to details
  • Familiarity with an Energy Trade Risk Management (ETRM) system such as Endur/OpenLink Knowledge of OpenLink.
  • Must be detail oriented and highly organized.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or studying to become a CFA.


HYBRID: Work a combination of onsite and remote days each week, typically 2-3 days per week.
