We are currently looking for a dynamic individual to step into the Purchasing Director - Raw Materials & Chemicals role supporting our Advanced Materials division at our global headquarters in The Woodlands, TX.

Job Scope

As the Purchasing Director,you are responsible for leading a growing team in the development and execution of Huntsman's Global and Americas regional procurement strategy as it relates to raw materials, chemicals, packaging and toll manufacturing for Huntsman's Advanced Materials manufacturing facilities. The Purchasing Director will drive a culture of agility, collaboration and optimization; negotiate term and spot supply contracts as required; and maintain a close working relationship with Huntsman Business Leaders to ensure the purchasing related needs and overall business strategies are supported. In addition to leadership of the Americas Purchasing team, the successful candidate will also have direct global responsibility, as assigned, for business and global category management activities.

As the Purchasing Director - Raw Materials & Chemicals, you will:

  • Collaborate with Americas and Global business leadership teams to develop and maintain strategic sourcing and category management strategies while ensuring productive multi-level supplier relationships.
  • Establish and maintain close lines of communication with the production facilities, supply chain, and global business centers regarding the procurement of materials in the desired quantities and desired delivery requirements.
  • Provide in-depth information, analysis, and forecasting as needed to support business center and operational decision making.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement via active participation in Americas and Global Purchasing Leadership Teams
  • Assist in setting and implementing strategic objectives, policies & procedures, and drive projects for the overall benefit of Huntsman across the source to pay process.
  • Provide Purchasing and Business Leadership with guidance, reports and updates on supplier issues and materials markets. Develop professional presentations on these topics to be communicated up and down the organization.
  • Individually lead key categories and represent Huntsman in strategic supplier relationships that drive innovation and value.
  • Lead a team of strategic sourcing professionals in the execution of strategic sourcing activities in the Americas and Globally as assigned.
  • Drive sourcing methodology across all categories and teams is support of Business financial and commercial performance targets.
  • Negotiate term and spot raw material and chemical supply contracts as required by Huntsman Business Centers with a keen focus on ensuring goods are competitively priced and strategically purchased.
  • Ensure that goods are obtained from approved sources, meet existing quality and performance standards using proper purchasing practices which include ISO, Sarbanes-Oxley and Purchasing procedures while ensuring lowest Total Cost of Ownership and maximum value to bottom line.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and developmental training to Americas team in a manner that promotes professional growth, job success and organizational upskilling.
  • Business related travel, business related functions and extended office hours as required.
  • Work with internal EH&S and QA departments to track and mitigate supplier nonconformance issues.

Required Qualifications:

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

  • Bachelor's Degree and 10+ years of applicable chemical industry strategic level purchasing, supply chain/procurement experience
  • Must have demonstrated experience leading and directing teams
  • Required knowledge and experience negotiating contracts
  • Demonstrated organizational change management support for large, complex, enterprise-level initiatives
  • Ability to travel 20% to 30% to locations across North, Central, and South America
  • Communicates tactfully and effectively both verbally and in writing and maintains effective work relations with those encountered during the course of employment
  • Flexibility and adaptability to new instructions and/or dynamic organizational priorities is critical for job success
  • An aptitude for analytical thinking and analysis is critical to job success
  • An aptitude for both strategic and creative thinking is critical to job success

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of chemical raw materials and feedstocks, Huntsman businesses and markets is a plus.
  • SAP experience/knowledge is a plus.
  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or documented progress toward this certification is a plus.
