Position: House Supervisor, RN

Position Summary:

The House Supervisor functions under the supervision of the Department Director, supports clinical activities and special projects of the department; and in collaboration with the Charge Nurse coordinates the throughput of inpatient units and coordinates the off-hour operations of nursing. Supports organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence Standards to all customer groups.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Maintains professional behavior when dealing with issues or conflicts, utilizing appropriate resources, as needed. Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, families, visitors, and employees. The House Supervisor will assess risks to patient safety and implement the appropriate precautions. The House Supervisor will comply with appropriate and approved standards, as outlined by the organization and accrediting agencies. The House Supervisor will comply with safety and injury prevention standards to minimize risk to self, co-workers, patients, and visitors. The concepts of the patient centered care delivery model will provide the foundation for all nursing care.

Utilizes the appropriate leadership skills in delegating and providing feedback concerning staff performance. Demonstrates initiative, a collaborative approach, and sound judgment in day to day management at the unit level.

Manages the satisfaction of department outcomes to include patients, families, peers, employees, and physicians through effective communication and appropriate responsiveness to customer issues. Accountable for appropriate staffing for each shift, based on patient census, acuity, and available resources in collaboration with charge nurse(s) and unit directors.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Current license or permit to practice nursing in the State of Texas
  • BSN required, Acute position only - not required for House Supervisor for Behavioral Health
  • 3 years of hospital RN experience required
  • 2 or more years of supervisory experience
  • Must have current BLS certification upon hire and maintain certification throughout employment
  • Verbal de-escalation completion within 30 days of hire and maintain throughout employment

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

1. Ability to read and write in English
2. Ability to communicate with patients, families, staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors and others
3. Ability to cope with and remain calm under stress
4. Ability to respond to pages
5. Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions
6. Bending, lifting (25 lbs minimum), grasping, fine hand/eye coordination, pushing and pulling, prolonged standing or sitting
7. Ability to repeatedly twist, squat, and stoop
8. Exposure to infectious organisms, agents and toxic chemicals
