We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Occupational Health Nurse within our Occupational Health Team based in Houston,TX.

This position with the Occupational Health Department includes supportive and dynamic interactions with Human Resources, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and operational groups to manage and facilitate successful Occupational Health Programs, Short Term Disability Return-to-Work and Employee Health and Wellness Programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Human Resources, HSE and OOG Occupational Health Manager to support business objectives.
    • Collaborate with HR, HSE, Leave Administration, and medical providers to case manage Leave of Absences (LOA) and provide effective return to work within company programs.
  • Understand the Oil and Gas Industry exposure issues and promote accurate understanding of workplace risks.
  • Provide support for case management, drug testing programs, onboarding & assimilation of new hires, and business continuance for the assigned asset areas.
  • Individual contributor role with no direct reports or clinical interface.
  • Physical Exam Clearance Quality Assurance and Administrative Activities: Coordination with outside vendor and clearance of post-offer medical exams and/or physical abilities testing. Including but not limited to assuring medical validity of STD/Non-STD return to work clearances.
  • Case Management of Short-term Disability for sedentary and safety sensitive employees' due to illness, personal or occupational injury.
    • Process Short-term Disability and Worker's Compensation via AbsenceSoft (software solution) and our Electronic Medical Records.
    • Coordination of modified duty assignments with business units, employees and obtaining appropriate documentation from physician offices to ensure adequate restrictions for illness/injury cases. Work closely with other medical professionals to help manage occupational and non-occupational care of employees.
  • Compliance with HIPPA, Nurse Practice Act, Privacy Laws, and Department of Labor Laws.
  • Collaborate closely with internal and external health stakeholders (i.e., Human Resources, Health, Environmental and Safety, OPC Medical Director, Benefits, Legal, Business Unit Leaders, contracted medical services providers, etc.) to support business objectives and provide appropriate technical occupational health support to safeguard company personnel, contractors, assets, surrounding communities, and the environment.
  • Counsel on disability management processes (occupational and non-occupational) including return to work - such as site-specific medial provision evaluations (i.e., FFD coordination, FCE coordination, IME coordination, etc.).
  • After hours on-call in support/back-up only for Occupational Health Nurse Manager and respond to infrequent call outs for Occupational Medical consultation by OOG business partners.
  • Assures follow-up care / treatment for Oxy Employees of their occupational injury or illness.
  • Provide necessary reporting and referral for workers' compensation. Coordinate return to work for Workers Compensation.
  • Facilitate effective use of contract medical providers and clinics to meet facility objectives at the asset level.
  • Maintain medical records and patient confidentiality.
  • Enhance personal professional education and maintain necessary certifications and license.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with employees, site management, Oxy Corporate Occupational Health Team, HR, HESS, and local medical community.
  • Able to lift 10 lbs.
  • Be able to travel 2-3x per year for asset support and any site visit related activities - at our production facilities and offices.

HSE (Social Responsibility, Floor Warden, Regulatory Compliance, Drug Testing):

  • Work with multi-disciplinary HR and Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) teams to provide appropriate technical occupational health support and coordination to safeguard company personnel, contractors, assets, surrounding communities and the environment.
  • Participate in on-site audits, as needed.
  • Assess, support, develop and/or build health and wellness processes for assigned OOG asset that is being supported by this OH Nurse position.
  • Act as a Designated Employer Representative (DER) for OOG to support the Drug and Alcohol programs.

Wellness Support:

  • Support the OxyHealth (Wellness) team by being a Well-Being Champion and advising with wellness events and education including onsite biometric screenings, flu shots, step challenges, etc.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Fully unencumbered registered nursing license in the State of Texas, preferably a compact license or willing to obtain.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) certified.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing with 5 years of relevant Occupational Health experience required

Certification in:

    • NIOSH Spirometry
    • Basic Life Support/AED for medical professionals (BLS)
    • DOT specimen collection
    • Non-DOT Drug Test Collection
  • Proficiency in MS Office products including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team of nurses and ability to cross-cover functional nursing duties.
  • Ability to read, write and speak fluently English.
  • Must be able to work independently, prioritize and make quality decisions in a timely manner.
  • Experience in the Oil and Gas Industry or manufacturing industry required

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) or Certified Occupational Health Nurse- Specialist (COHN/S) certification.
  • Master of Public Health (MPH).
  • Experience managing wellness programs, a plus.
  • Integrative Health Coach or Wellness Certification is a plus.
