Location: Houston, TX - Remote/Hybrid

Brief Description:

The Director, Technical Training directs the implementation, delivery and evaluation of technical training programs and solutions based on identified needs for Patterson-UTI (PTEN). This position will work as a strategic partner with HR Leadership & Leadership teams across all organizations to develop a learning and development strategic roadmap for best-in-class technical training content and delivery in alignment with the business' short and long-term objectives and incorporating key principles of adult education. This role will also lead the Completions technical training team including overseeing the quarterly skills-based review, ongoing curriculum and content creation, delivery in the classroom and in the field.

This position will work under the direction of the Vice President, Talent & Training (T&T).

Detailed Description:

  • Partner and engage with VP T&T, HR Leadership Team (HRLT) and organizational Presidents to understand current training processes, training needs and work to develop/build strategic training plans in support of all PTEN technical training programs.
  • Create and monitor key measures of success for all technical training programs across the PTEN companies. Putin place plans for continuous improvement based on feedback mechanisms, testing, competency evaluation and ongoing analyst is key metrics.
  • Serve as a member of the Talent & Training leadership team. Own and drive connections across the other T&T functions (Learning & Development-L&D, Talent Acquisition-TA, Talent Management-TM, Learning Management Systems-LMS) to ensure alignment and continuous improvement across all teams.
  • Build/use performance review/skill gap analyses/etc. to identify training needs per functions, companies, and teams.
  • Anticipates future skills gaps through incisive new technical training programs.
  • Ensure utilization of technology, paired with company culture, to deliver the right learning, at the right time in the right way.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to technical training team. Sets expectations and effectively manages team contribution, performance, and engagement across the Product Service Lines (PSLs) and companies.
  • Forecast and monitor technical training budgets as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with HR leaders to implement effective deployment and redeployment strategies.
  • Identifying new tools to enhance human capital capabilities across the organization.

Job Requirements:

  • Hands-on leader that creates and deploys best in class technical training programs. Is successful through communication and accountability of expectations to team members and stakeholders.
  • Proven management experience in leading an engaged and metrics driven organization.
  • The ability to build rapport with stakeholders and maintain strong professional relationships.
  • Proven experience in developing and deploying new programs, systems, or processes, etc.
  • Familiarity with experiential learning, gamification, and emerging trends in L&D.
  • Working knowledge of L&D best practices, tools, methodologies, etc.
  • Knowledge of key performance indicators (KPIs) relevant to the L&D function.
  • Ability to maintain Company and employee confidentiality at all times, handles sensitive employee information, and protect Company proprietary information in an appropriate manner.
  • Ability to work under time-sensitive deadlines while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor when adversity and multiple initiatives/priorities are encountered.
  • Ability to prepare and conduct effective presentations and written report preparation.
  • High level of energy needed for a fast-paced environment where multiple initiatives are happening simultaneously.
  • Exhibit strong organizational and critical thinking skills, high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills include the ability to speak, write and listen in a manner that clarifies issues, promotes closure, and delivers information clearly and concisely, and facilitates good decision-making with other people within and outside the Company.
  • Effective customer service and communication skills and ability to collaborate with other employees, customers, and third parties.
  • Possess advanced computer skills in Microsoft (MS) Office and working knowledge of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel as needed to other offices and work sites, occasionally requiring extended travel to remote locations and/or overnight stay(s) outside normal office area.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business and/or other relevant field of study.
  • 8+ years of human resources and/or training experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in the training and employee development function.
  • Must have and maintain valid state-issued driver's license, be eligible to drive a Company vehicle and meet the requirements of the Company's vehicle program, policy and/or guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • LMS systems experience and comfort in deploying new systems.
  • Passionate about learning and development displayed through one's career journey (development in role, certifications, continuing education, etc.).

Additional Details:

Work is primarily in a climate controlled / office environment with minimal safety / health hazard potential. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, or walk with occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor, bending and frequent near vision use for reading and use of computer, telephone, and other office equipment.
