What You'll Do

The candidate will perform work at Pantex as a member of a fire protection engineering team. The candidate will support construction projects and ensure that installation of underground fire supply piping, electronic fire detection systems, and fire suppression systems meet applicable requirements. Fire protection experience is not required. The individual will be a resource for construction teams and will work with all members of an integrated project team. Direct experience not required. Minimum Job Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Fire Protection Engineering from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET.
  • There is a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement up to 4 years post-graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript. Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire.
    • 3.0/4.0 minimum cumulative GPA for Bachelor degree
    • 3.3 minimum cumulative GPA for Master degree
    • 3.5 minimum cumulative GPA for PhD
  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2).
Preferred Job Requirements

*Work experience in engineering design, construction, or configuraton management is preferred but not required.
*Ability to interpret applicable NFPA, IFC, IBC, LSC, ICC and NRC codes that regulate nuclear fire suppression concepts.
*Develop, refine, and implement test plans utilized in acceptance testing of new fire protection software, detection instruments, and suppression equipment.
*Review design, change proposals, decision criteria, and schedule for compliance or improvements.
*Perform field verification of the fire suppression and underground piping system, which includes, but not limited to drawings, functionality, system commissioning, and maintainability.
*Utilize strong communication skills while acting as a resource for the integrated project team to execute installation and documentation deliverables seamlessly.
*Attention to detail, especially in written reports such as test plans, acceptance packages, and quality/safety documents.
*Technical proficiency in fluid (water) dynamics, piping construction, fire protection controls and monitoring, and general maintenance practices.
*Application of engineering sciences such as fluid mechanics, hydraulic (water) pumping systems, piping instrumentation, and new/upgraded construction activities.
*Ability to follow procedures and work within a rigorous work process.
*Good written and oral communications skills.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
