Job Description
Role: Business Analyst
Duration: 8+ months (Potential extension)
Location: Houston, TX 77002

Work Schedule: Hybrid/Onsite:
Onsite every Wednesday and 3rd week of the month -Tues, Wed & Thurs

Background:

The project (under Passenger Services Systems) is massive - migrating 30+ applications (in-house, running currently, and in-production) from one data center to another.

Right now there's a rough analysis to figure out the apps that are cloud-capable and make them cloud-compatible if they are not for future cloud migration (AWS).

The project will trickle down to Q1/2 of next year.

Apps are 5-10 years old any issues will impact passengers so need to document current design and future designs

No other BA on the team this person would be the only one.

Day to Day:

Need a strong BA to help with the

Clients are internal channels (upstream and downstream)

Will be very involved and collaborating with developers, Q/A team, and Support team (25+ members).

Work involves navigating with the infrastructure team at United and the integration team outside besides working with the development team and gathering requirements.

Skill:

STRONG BA SKILLSET!!! (showcase they can handle this massive project)

Strong documentation

Data mapping/visuals

Data Center migration exp is a plus

Data Centre Migration experience would be plus but not data migration

Years of Experience: 10+ years (airline experience is a plus). However, the manager is open to reviewing candidates with lesser years if they can prove they have taken on a massive project like this one.

Questions:

1. How many years of minimum exp does the candidate need to have as a BA? No particular years as such need to show they can take on this project

2. Do they also need data analysis exp? No. Data mapping and visuals

3. Are there any specific tools they looking for? No, but any technical background would be a plus.

4. What is lacking in previously submitted and interviewed candidates?

The HM is looking for experience with holding development accountable, showcasing strong documentation, and taking initiatives as there's no or minimal documentation as the apps are so old. Candidates have not been able to speak on these areas showing their capability to take on this massive project.

The panel is looking for details of how they have handled situations and how they can fit to this role. Tell them about the instances they learned lessons, and how they implemented things.

5. Is aviation experience a must, or will she consider a strong BA from other industries? Aviation experience is not a must.

Job overview and responsibilities
Responsible for leveraging IT resources to solve business needs and problems. They play a crucial role in the development of high-performing and large-volume integration applications. Role will focus on using the agile method to plan, design, develop and launch efficient systems and solutions in support of core organizational functions. This individual will apply proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate and resolve issues, opportunities or problems in order to maximize the benefit of IT and Business investments.
  • Works on one or more moderate to complex projects

  • Document training programs and knowledge articles
  • Basic understanding of business principles (Our systems)
  • Identifies problems/issues and finds solutions

  • Ensure issues are tracked and resolved, providing activity updates and documenting changes to business work flows and processes

Required
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Business Administration
  • 2-5 IT and/or business experience, or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training
  • Communication Skills - The ability to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of employees and management, capable of successful formal and informal communication, speaks and writes clearly and understandably at the right level
  • Integrity and Trust - Involves being widely trusted, being seen as a direct, truthful individual, can present the unvarnished truth in an appropriate and helpful manner, keeps confidences, admits mistakes, and doesn't misrepresent him/herself for personal gain
